Job summary

To work in conjunction with the Lead practitioner to develop and implement a qualityPre-Operative assessment service to meet the needs of all patients requiring anaesthesiaand surgery.

The post holder will work within the department to provide the highest standards of patientcare using research evidence based practise, national and local perform the competencies of a trained pre assessment nurse and in addition anycompetencies associated to the allocated undertake the teaching and assessment of junior post holder will assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care for patients undergoing theatre procedures.

Deputise for the Lead Practitioner when absent to maintain the efficient running of the act autonomously within given competencies and recognise when to make appropriate referrals.

Main duties of the job

You will be expected to provide nursing leadership, support and actively contribute to our high standards You will be responsible for planning, investigating, ensuring your patients' receive safe , personal and effective care throughout their assessment whilst maintaining high standards of care and at times acting as the patients' advocate.

Job responsibilities

Maintain a dynamic enthusiastic role model providing clinical leadership regardingpre- operative assessment and preparation to ensure a high standard of work with initiative and independently within the extended role seeking support in linewith local protocol.Understand the risks and benefits of surgery and anaesthesia with appropriate intervention.History taking, including relevant medical and social history.Interpretation of clinical findings.Incorporating evidence/research based practice. The post holder will assess, plan,implement and evaluate individualised programmes of care of patients during preoperative and peri-operative period.Initiate appropriate referrals, investigation, education and treatment in light of assessment.Evaluate the patients programme of care with other members of the care team.Recognise the rights, dignity and confidentiality of the patient, staff and visitors andensure they are protected at all times.Recognise professional, legal and ethical issues appropriate to preoperative assessment.Demonstrate initiative, decision making and good time post holder will co-ordinate with staff from other departments to develop effectivechannels of communication and to provide a safe, personal and effective care for patients,relatives and members of the multidisciplinary collaboration with Lead Practitioner develop clinical standards, policies and proceduresto ensure a high quality service is post holder must act at all times within the policies and procedures of theUnit/ post holder may assist/ undertake audit to ensure that the service provision complieswith agreed clinical standards, policies and procedures. To promote innovation in clinical practice by obtaining, evaluating and disseminatinginformation to support clinical decision making.Empower and motivate team members to develop their skills and knowledge and topromote a cohesive team structure.Initiate and respond to change in a positive, flexible and strategic post holder will plan staff rotas in conjunction with or in the absence of the LeadPractitionerIn liaison with the Lead Practitioner the post holder will effectively co-ordinate the team toensure an appropriate skill mix of personnel able to provide specialist peri-operative care andprovide learning support/opportunities for staff in the assessment and evaluation of the professional performance of all staffthrough appraisals and clinical supervision.Develop a conducive learning environment in which all team members are able to fulfil the maintenance of accurate records, having due regard to legal aspects,confidentiality and management information post holder may be asked at the discretion of the Nurse Director to work in any Unit ofthe Trust, as post holder will undertake Mandatory Study Days on a regular basis as directed byTrust study days and lectures so as to keep abreast of developments in the care andtreatment of patients and to develop own motivation/self-improvement and forRevalidation post holder is required to manage frequent interruptions of an unpredictable/urgent naturethat require an immediate response. Be responsible for maintaining valid professional registration.Maintain standards of conduct in accordance with their professional body.Provides day to day supervision of junior staff, may act as mentor and post holder will report concerns about skill mix or suitability of team members to the post holder may be involved in the selection and recruitment of post holder is required to monitor sickness/ absence and welcome back interviews for the mini team you will responsible for and to communicate with the Lead Practitioner.
