Are you our next junior sister/charge nurse within the specialty of cardiology? A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a keen motivated and reliable individual to join our team on The Cardiac Care Ward.

The Cardiac Care Ward is a very busy 26 bedded cardiology ward on the new Heart Care Unit and we are looking to increase our current nursing leadership team. These are exiting teams in the specialty of cardiology with the development of the new heart care unit that has just opened.

We are looking for an enthusiastic leader with a positive can do attitude who not only demonstrates line management responsibilities but someone who will act as a role model exhibiting excellent values and behaviours, inspiring others, leading change and implementing best practice.

Main duties of the job

As a junior sister/Charge nurse you will be expected to care for a wide range of patients with cardiology conditions such as myocardial infarction's, heart failure, arrhythmia's, valve disease, endocarditis and also patients who are undergoing or have already had angiography, pacemakers/complex devices and trans -osophageal echoes. The ward also cares for patients awaiting transfer to a tertiary centre who are waiting for cardiac surgery and repatriated patients post cardiac surgery.

You will actively support the ward manager ensuring the effective running of the ward in their absence. You will provide clinical and managerial leadership to nursing and support staff in delivering safe personal and effective care of the highest standards.

As a band 6 on B18 you will work closely with the ward manager to ensure that the trusts visions and values are met. You will be expected to coordinate the ward on a day to day basis in the absence of senior nursing staff working alongside other MDT members facilitating safe and effective flow of patients.

The Cardiac Care Ward has recently achieved their third green in their nursing assessment and performance framework and is applying for SPEC status which the ward team is committed to achieve

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

As a junior sister/Charge nurse you will be expected to

1/Provide nurse leadership in the absence of the ward manager ensuring the highest standards of patient care are delivered.

2/ Co-ordinate the ward in the absence of the ward manager

3/Provide effective communication within the cardiology team and with other members of the multi disciplinary team

4/Ensure quality and sustainability are maintained within the ward environment.

5/Be a confident role model for the junior nursing team and support staff.

6/Lead others in developing knowledge, ideas and clinical practice.

7/Be proactive in implementing best practice in infection control and supporting a clean, tidy environment

Cardiology experience is preferred but not essential. There are also educational opportunities to further develop cardiology nursing practice and leadership skills.

Essential criteria

1ST Level registered nurse

Proven development of own skills and clinical knowledge

Two years post registration experience

Flexible to the service needs including weekends and night rotation.

Ability to embrace change and facilitate new concepts within the ward setting.

Ability to perform well under pressure

Desirable Criteria

Previous experience in cardiology

Qualification in cardiology

ILS/ALS providers

Has introduced quality improvement initiatives within a clinical setting

  • Basic numeracy & literacy skills Demonstrate ability to absorb training and carry out duties in accordance with procedures. Proven ability to take on board new ideas, skills and knowledge. Basic computer skills in order to access trust policies. Maintain confidentiality

  • Proven ability to work in a team and be supportive of other team members. Sensitive and flexible to the needs of the general public and their changing needs
  • 6 months caring experience
Desirable criteria
  • Cardiac nursing experience
  • cardiac nursing course ALS
