Job summary

Do you enjoy the challenge of working in a busy service where no two days are the same? This is an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated, experienced, enthusiastic Occupational Health Nurse to join our SEQOHS accredited friendly team at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. The post is based at The Working Well Centre, Worcester, but will also involve cross site working, travel to some outside NHS sites and companies for whom we provide an Occupational Health and wellbeing service.

We are looking for an occupational health nurse withat least 12 months Occupational Health experience in the NHS or private sector. You must possess excellent interpersonaland teamworking skills. You must have the ability be flexible, responsive and dynamic with motivation and commitment to continuous learning and development.

Main duties of the job

To support and contribute to theeffective provision of a high quality Occupational Health and Wellbeing Serviceto the Trust and other public sector and private organisations.

To promote and maintain a systematic,holistic approach to occupational health and wellbeing provision, itsimplementation and evaluation.

Provide clear impartial advice to bothmanagers and employees to optimise health and wellbeing at work, supporting thereduction in sickness absence and prevent work related ill health and injury.

To participate in identifying andmaintaining a safe working environment and preventing ill health that may beassociated with work.

To promote and implement workplace health and wellbeinginitiatives.

To work with private organisations and deliver high qualityOccupational Health and Wellbeing Service within agreed service levelspecifications.

To contribute to an atmosphere conducive to learning, audit andthe use of nursing based research / evidence based rationale for clinicalpractice.

The service uses Cority Occupational Health software whichsupports all clinical functions.

Reports to: Deputy OccupationalHealth Nurse Manager

Key Working Relationships:

Allstakeholders OtherNHS Occupational Health and Wellbeing Services, Other non NHS Organisations,Clinical CommissioningGroups.

Risk Assessment: Workingwith VDUs, some manual handling/repetitive tasks. Potential exposure todistressed and or verbally aggressive individuals. The role can be emotionallychallenging at times.

JobPurpose:

KeyDuties:

Towork autonomously and independently and where appropriate to seek support andguidance in relation to more complex issues.

Undertakeassessments and provide health at work advice to managers and staff following areferral during their employment. To inform managers of the findingswithin the defined department timescales and in line with confidentiality andconsent requirements.

Provideeffective case management by assessing employees fitness for work followinglong term sickness absence, frequent short term sickness absence, or where theemployee is experiencing health or disability issues impacting upon them atwork.

Offeradvice on fitness for work, return to work plans, workplace adjustments and illhealth retirement.

Deliverimmunisations and vaccination clinics. This will include venepuncture andadministering vaccinations.

Using the agreed Occupational Health procedures and guidance toundertake a risk assessment for staff who have sustained a blood or body fluidexposure incident and to advise on any appropriate course of treatmentincluding the need for Post Exposure Prophylaxis. To inform staff of thesource/recipient blood results and any implications to working practice.

GiveInfection Prevention and Control Advise to staff and line managers, includingcontact tracing following staff exposure to infectious conditions.

To work in partnership with clients to identify health hazards throughthe risk assessment process and to support with the implement of healthsurveillance programmes where appropriate in line with government legislation and WorkingWell policy.

To regularly undertake the role of the Duty Nurse Adviser providingtelephone advice to all contracted clients on any Occupational Health concern,which may include pre-placement health issues, health capability to work,infection control and blood and body fluid exposure incidents. To advise onmore complex issues as required.

Participatein Health and Wellbeing initiatives.

Participatein the induction and training of new employees.

To record accurate and confidential occupational health informationinto staff records following all appointments and communication with thedepartment.

Qualifications

Essential

Registered Nurse on the NMC register Evidence of relevant professional development Post basic qualification at either diploma or degree level in Occupational Health or relevant subject, or working towards

Desirable

Registered nurse NMC Sub part 3 BSc SCPHN OH Diploma in OH nursing NEBOSH qualification Relevant teaching qualification Relevant health promotion qualification Relevant management qualification

Experience

Essential

Substantial post registration experience in general nursing Substantial Occupational Health experience Supervision of junior staff Experience of coordinating clinics and service requirements

Desirable
