About the Role:
This role is a great opportunity to take the first step in an interesting career path which is always in high demand. Developing your business administration skills in a scientific research institute will give you a unique perspective on how good organisation and reliable delivery underpins scientific, as well as commercial, success.
You will be responsible for providing administrative support to the Academic Programmes Team. Your role will primarily focus on supporting the group leader function and the postgraduate function of the team with day-to-day administrative activities. Activities will include, for example, arranging interviews, meetings and catering, supporting our organisation of regular and one-off events, and communicating with internal departments and our scientific community to ensure critical activities are being completed when due. As your skills develop during this post there may be opportunities to contribute to the management of postgraduate office emails, involvement in impactful team projects, or to lead on administrative process improvement.
You will join a vibrant community of administration professionals at all stages in their career who together keep this Institute running smoothly year by year, and we will pair you with a senior mentor with a successful administration career who can answer your questions both about good practice and about future career options.
About You:
You will be a highly organised individual with a collaborative approach to working and an ability to adapt to new systems and different activities. You will have a thorough and reliable delivery style, an ability to prioritise and independently manage a to-do list, and good attention-to-detail. You will be someone who delights in working in a team and learning from others.
About Us:
In the Academic Programmes team we recruit, support and develop the academic scientists who deliver the world-changing research for which the Sanger Institute is so famous. There is not one PhD student, Postdoc or research Group Leader in this institute who we haven't impacted in some way. Working with a wide range of internal departments and external partner organisations, we organise and deliver recruitment rounds, training events, networking opportunities and provide wellbeing support and signposting. Our goal is to make sure our scientists develop as global scientific leaders and are able to focus their time on their great scientific discoveries.
Essential Skills:
- Minimum of 5 GCSE's Grade C (4+) or above, including English and Maths
- No administration experience necessary, but must be willing to learn and put in the necessary work to gain the Level 3 Business Administration apprenticeship qualification
- An interest in good organisation and administration
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Good attention to detail
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite
- Enthusiastic, flexible and proactive
- Ability to deal with changing priorities
- Good customer facing skills
- Ability to work within and contribute to a team
- Able to maintain confidentiality
- Eager to learn new skills
