We are looking for enthusiastic and committed Band 5 staff nurse to join our nursing team to provide expert care and support our patients in the Outpatients department, Radiotherapy and the Rapid Diagnostic and Assessment Centre (RDAC) at the Sutton site. The department manages several different clinics from breast one stop clinics, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and surgical clinics. The phlebotomy and CVAD service is also managed by the Outpatient team.

The post holder will be based at The Royal Marsden in Sutton in Our new state-of-the-art Cancer centre opened in Sutton in July 2023.

The post holder will work in the outpatient department in the new cancer centre, initially working across both Outpatients and the Rapid Diagnostic and Assessment Centre (RDAC). There will be a requirement to work shift patterns between the operating hours of 08:00 - 20:00 Monday to Friday.

Main duties of the job

The Band 5 Staff Nurse is an integral member of the team in the Outpatients department (OPD) caring for a variety of patients. The post-holder will join our nursing team to provide expert care and support to our patients in the Outpatients department and RDAC. To plan, document, deliver and evaluate evidence-based nursing care for patients in a responsible and efficient way, which has been drawn up in conjunction with the co-ordinator of the shift. To develop a greater awareness and understanding of the needs of patients with cancer and the different treatment modalities administered within the unit. To develop an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of managing a shift with the guidance of the departmental Sister.

Be involved in the collection of samples for diagnostic testing, urine collection and sputum collection. Administer medicines as prescribed with adherence to Guidelines for Medicines Administration (NMC2002) and The Royal Marsden Medicine Management Policy. This will exclude administration by the intravenous route or through subcutaneous syringe driver until you have passed the written drug administration test and have been assessed as competent. To be aware of the emotional demands that come with treating cancer patients and their families. To participate in educational programmes offered to staff. To attend the induction programme, mandatory training and teaching specific to the clinical areas. To participate in an annual collaborative appraisal process to enable achievement of objectives and management of learning needs. Person Specification
