Contract Type: Full-time/ Part-time

GSL Education are looking for exceptional individuals to work as Primary Teaching Assistants for students with ASD across client schools located in Washington, Tyne and Wear for the upcoming term of September 2024.

The ideal candidate will be motivated and committed to providing support to students on a 1:1 basis or small groups upon requirement.

The ideal ASD Teaching Assistant:

  • Must be a patient and reliable
  • Be able to work well in a team
  • Be proactive in meeting student's needs
  • Have 1:1 experience with children with ASD
  • Have experience with ASD in a primary school setting
  • Should be able to empathise with their pupils and be able to set a good example

The ASD Teaching Assistant role:

  • Supporting the teaching and learning of ASD pupils across the school, working with struggling children or those who have become stifled by the curriculum.
  • Working alongside teachers to ensure a healthy teaching and learning environment in the classroom.
  • Supporting students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.
  • Providing one-on-one and group support to students with ASD.
  • Collaborating with teachers, parents, and other professionals to create a holistic support system.
  • Monitoring and recording students' progress and adjusting strategies as needed.

 Requirements for Primary ASD Teaching Assistant:

  • A Teaching Assistant qualification (e.g. CACHE Level 2 or 3)
  • Experience working with children with ASD or in a similar role
  • Understanding of ASD and associated behavioral strategies
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude
  • Relevant qualifications or willingness to undergo training
