London, United Kingdom Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Job summary

Applications are invited for the post of Clinical Fellow - Early Pregnancy & Acute Gynaecology in the department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at Guys and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust.

There are two full-time positions available fixed term for 12 months. We are seeking someone ST4 to ST7+ or equivalent, to start early October 2024 or prior to this if available.

The Early Pregnancy and Acute Gynaecology Unit (EPAGU) was opened in 2003 as the only such unit in the United Kingdom (UK) to be open 24 hours per day and one of the first to offer direct access for acute gynaecology. Despite no longer being open 24/7, it remains one of the busiest early pregnancy units in the UK. It offers tertiary level specialist early pregnancy care to a high risk local population. In addition the Unit manages patients from the Assisted Conception Unit at Guy's, the Sexual Health Service at Burrell Street and high risk pregnancies in patients under the specialist care of other departments within the Trust. EPAGU works closely with the world renowned Prematurity clinic, Hypertension in Pregnancy and obstetric medicine services. EPAGU has a dedicated Recurrent Miscarriage Service which also accepts out of area referrals. There is close liason with the Emergency Department and the General Surgeons, with whom Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) pathways exist.

Main duties of the job

This post provides the full breadth of training required to be a sub specialist in Early Pregnancy and Acute Gynaecology.

The post will be a full-time equivalent to ST4-7 level in obstetrics and gynaecology at GSTFT working within the Directorate of Women's Services. All duties are undertaken with suitable senior support.

The post-holder will have passed MRCOG part 1 (or equivalent) and must have completed at least 1 year at registrar or equivalent level (ST3) in an RCOG approved (or equivalent) unit.

The post may include first on call cover for acute gynaecology. The holder will be expected to take an active part in the management of gynaecological emergencies on the emergency gynaecology unit and gynaecology ward, as well as pre-operative and post-operative management of patients.

Communication and inter-personal skills are very important in this post and the post-holder will be expected to exhibit the highest possible standards in communication with patients, their families, consultants, junior medical staff, midwives and nurses since multi-professional team-working forms the foundation of our patient focussed service.
