Job summary

The post holder will be expected to work autonomously and manage a complex case load of patients requiring Podiatry Services. The work will include outpatient podiatry clinics and patient home visit. The post holder will also be responsible for Service development and will work with the Podiatry Clinical and Service lead to lead on Service improvement and transformation projects.

The post holder will act as a clinical specialist for patients with long term conditions, they will be responsible for patient at high risk of degeneration in tissue viability, loss of function to mobilise or low quality of life. As this is a Senior post, there is a lot of scope to explore and develop the role of the podiatrist in helping patients with long term conditions.

Main duties of the job

To deputise for the Podiatry Service and Clinical lead during times of leave and absence and support the team with clinical and management leadership.

To be responsible for the management of the day-to-day clinical provision of Foot Health Services for your clinics

To assist the Clinical Lead Podiatrist in delivering appropriate equitable and effective Foot Health Services.

To have a leadership role in developing the Foot Health Service for patients and our team members.

To undertake clinical supervision with staff members designated to you

To be actively involved in induction of new staff to the team.

Education/Qualification

Essential

BSc Degree In Podiatric Medicine or Diploma (if qualified prior 1991) Evidence of continual professional and personal development Registration with the Health Professions Council Certificate in local anaesthesia

Desirable

Evidence of post grad training in specialist area of podiatry Independent prescriber qualification

Experience

Essential

Significant post graduate clinical experience Experience of multidisciplinary and interagency working Experience of clinical supervision / mentoring Experience of service development Experience of working in an NHS environment Experience of working with a wide range of patient and disease / pathology types including the at-risk and high-risk foot

Desirable

Experience of managing a team Management of budgets Experience of staff recruitment o Experience of rota and diary management

Skills & Knowledge

Essential

Ability to evaluate patients concerns and needs and propose effective solutions Ability to undertake intricate work in using sensitive diagnostic tools and a range of surgical instruments. in the management and debridement of poor tissue viability wounds and nail surgery Presentation Skills / Experience at delivering Health Promotion IT Skills including use of Internet, e-mail, Word Processing Knowledge of recent developments in the profession Full knowledge of podiatric theory and practice Knowledge of foot orthotic design and manufacture Knowledge of RCOP code of conduct Understanding of Clinical Governance -theory and practice Knowledge of Provider/Commissioner roles Knowledge of audit and risk assessment

Key Attributes

Essential

Performing clinical treatments in physically restricted work positions requiring repetitive fine movements. Ability to cope with patient's anxieties and employ tactical techniques in order to help support patients and allay anxieties Adaptable to a variety of working environments and the ability to cope with sometimes distressing settings and work tasks including wound care, neglected feet and exposure to malodour, body fluids including blood and wound exudate.
