AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on.

Key job responsibilities
A Network Development Engineer is responsible for engineering, implementation, scalability, operations, reliability, and sustainability of our next-generation networks. An NDE will utilise their networking skills along with our advanced tools and systems to invent, refine and develop automation and mechanisms to reduce manual operations. Our Engineers think at “Amazon scale” to solve problems in permanent, sustainable, and scalable ways, with an eye towards utilising the best solution over the quickest solution. The work will include:

- Leading network projects in network sustaining engineering, new builds, deployment, implementation, scaling, technology refresh and network optimization
- Contributing to our operations function, responding to customer impact events and requests, troubleshooting, and fixing and improving the automation that runs our network
- Analysing the network using tools and metrics to ensure it is operating correctly, safely and securely
- Investigating technical issues scientifically and thoroughly, and assist in fixing them so they don't come back
- Simplifying and reinventing systems, processes, and tools to better deliver for our customers
- Learning new and upcoming networking systems and developing ways of safely implementing them into our environment.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- A relevant degree in a related technical discipline or equivalent experience in a large-scale network environment.
- Experience in a network focused hands-on technical role working with routing protocols/technologies and platforms in large scale data centre and/or WAN network environments. Developing engineering
- Experience in deployment, or operations mechanisms to support IP networking systems.
- Experience in a technical on-call capacity, responding to customer impacting events, mitigating and root cause analysis of those events. Must be able to work in a 24x7 team on-call rotation, with ability to travel into the workplace for critical events/needs.
- Knowledge & experience of interacting with many network devices at a time through any of networking configuration tools, Infrastructure as Code or scripting.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Thorough understanding of TCP/IP networking, routing, and Network Security architecture and core technologies such as IP, TCP, OSPF, BGP, MPLS, load balancers,firewalls, ACLs, DNS, DHCP, IP address management.
- Knowledge & experience of Linux or other Unix operating systems
- Knowledge of network hardware and packet forwarding architectures
- Proficiency in scripting/programming with one or more of Python (preferred), Perl, Ruby, Shell, Java, etc.
