Job Purpose

Identify, manage, and support delivery of a number of carbon reduction work projects primarily focussed on scope 1 (direct emissions from heating) and scope 2 (indirect emissions from GRID supplied electricity).To support the development of green energy opportunities across the estate.

This role will work closely with Climate Change Team Lead who will oversee a portfolio of work related to the Carbon Strategy.

Responsibilities Support development of SPS scope 1 and 2 carbon reduction strategies and plans. Overall responsibility for the delivery of carbon emission reduction engineering projects identified within approved SPS carbon management plans. Project Manage a portfolio of carbon reduction projects identified within approved business cases – this will specifically relate to Scope 1 & 2 of Delivery. Working in partnership with internal and external stakeholders to ensure delivery of approved projects. Provide advocacy and support at national and operational level, ensuring staff are trained, competent and supported to undertake climate change policy implementation. Carry out critical analysis on design drawings, technical specifications, reporting and making recommendations in relation to identified projects including input into the design and operation of new prison buildings and major refurbishments. Person Specification SPS recruitment and selection practice is based on the fundamentals of our Competencies for Success Framework. This identifies behaviours and standards required both of applicants seeking to join us, and our staff in their respective roles. Assessment of specific behaviours, of which there are eight, will be determined by the role you are applying for. Whilst it is unlikely you will be assessed on all of them, you will be assessed on those identified as key to role. Qualification Requirements Educated to degree level in a related field such as mechanical or electrical engineering, sustainability, or environmental management. Knowledge, Skills and Experience Requirements Experience of sponsoring or project management of complex services or infrastructure projects within a public sector or private organisation in a related field , mechanical, or electrical engineering. The role holder is expected to have technical skills in the field of low and zero direct emission heating technologies and providing support regarding relevant scope 1 & 2 legislation , Heat Networks Zoning (HNZ) and Building Assessment Reports (BAR) and Heat in Buildings Strategy and other relevant regulations and legislation. Experience of managing a portfolio of projects utilising project management techniques and processes to achieve successful outcomes.
