A good restrictive intervention trainer has the potential to change practice, win hearts and minds and has an important role in supporting a systems wide approach to the reduction of unnecessary restrictive practices. They have a range of skills and are confident in their knowledge of all the training content, how it fits within the human rights framework and best practice for the sector and population they are training in. They can assess competence, encourage potential and appropriately challenge unhelpful attitudes. (Restraint Reduction Network Training Standards 2019)

We are currently expanding the PEACE (Positive Engagement and Caring Environments) Department to ensure we have the optimal team to meet the training needs of our staff. We are a small, friendly team offering BildACT certified training in restraint and restrictive practice reduction.

Main duties of the job

This post is a great fit for anyone interested in teaching and facilitating but would like to continue to use and develop their clinical skills. You will have a strong desire to provide compassionate and effective approaches to managing distress in the clinical environment. You will be directly involved in developing the training programme to ensure we are using evidence based approaches. You will be given great support to continue with your professional development and expand your knowledge and skills according to your interests.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Applicants must

have a valid driving license or be prepared to travel to all trust sites using alternative methods of transport.  have a reasonable level of fitness and evidence that they can perform all the required physical skills. have relevant clinical experience of inpatient mental health or learning disability settings.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

Working at Band 5 with relevant registration or equivalent vocational qualification

Desirable criteria

Training qualification associated with the prevention and/or management of restrictive practice Qualification in related skills e.g. Moving and Handling , First Aid

Experience/Knowledge

Essential criteria

Direct care or user experience in a relevant clinical setting Demonstrable knowledge of current national guidance in relation to reduction of restrictive practices in mental health and learning disability settings Experience of working in NHS and a good understanding of its processes and systems

Desirable criteria

Relevant teaching experience Experience in co production of training

Personal Attributes

Essential criteria

Demonstrate a credible role model through example and motivation Diplomacy applied to all working situations Physically fit enough to train in all levels of PEACE training programme including during periods of covid restriction

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria

Ability to supervise and develop PEACE Champions/Trainers/Coaches on a daily basis, referring to managers as appropriate Ability to plan and implement training sessions Ability to work without supervision, using own initiative and whilst under pressure Ability to undertake and analyze surveys or audits as necessary Ability to identify problems and deal with them or bring them to the attention of the manager if further action is required Ability to deputise for the PEACE Learning Environment Leads as required All new starters have a 6 month probationary period. This, together with the induction process, aims to create a positive supportive working environment allowing new employees to learn key elements of their role over a reasonable timescale Candidates not currently employed by the Trust who attend an interview for non-qualified Band 1-5 posts are required to undertake numeracy and literacy assessments. Appointment to this post is subject to the trust receiving satisfactory references covering 3 years of employment or study. Please ask your referees to respond promptly to reference requests. Employees are expected to undertake mandatory and statutory training related to their role.
