Role:- Rope Technician
Location:- Doncaster
Salary:- £28, - £31, Depending upon experience inclusive of shift allowance.
Hours of Work:- Monday to Friday Days, Afters rotation with the flexibility to work nights occasionally as required.
About the role
We are recruiting for a Rope Technician to join our established team based at Doncaster. As part of a team of 18 this role will be integral to the on-going development of our products and will offer the opportunity to develop and learn our own Bekaert standards, whilst forging a career within a niche industry. This role is not just lab based it will include first hand shop floor experience use of various equipment and power tools in order to cut to size to carry out tests and sampling.
Responsibilities
As a Rope Technician you will
To prepare, examine and record the specific condition of various samples before, during and after various forms of applied testing procedures. To operate the rope testing machines which will include bend fatigue, torque-turn and tensile test, which will include wire, wire rope, fibre rope and composites. To complete post spin wire testing on wire rope samples submitted to the Laboratory for investigation and analysis. To provide support services to assist the technical test laboratory manager and quality inspector as and when required. To assist in the operation of various technical testing and investigative specialist items of equipment. To assist in the preparation and examination of samples for Metallurgical examination, this will eventually include microscopic evaluations. To compile and complete test reports in respect of various identified investigative procedures using standard report templates, held on one of a number of desk top PC’s in a suitable format.It is expected that following suitable training the Laboratory Technician will be able to complete entire testing and evaluation exercises without continuous supervision.
About You
Essential skills & competencies
Hands on experience of working with wire, wire rope and or fibre rope products not essential but it is an advantage. Basic knowledge of test methodology applied to evaluate the condition of wire, wire and fibre rope products or composite & metal products would be an advantage Previous knowledge in the preparation and examination of wire rope samples would be an advantage Basic knowledge and ability in the use of Microsoft Office which would include word and excel Ability to effectively communicate is essential Fork truck and overhead crane operator licences would be advantageous.Be part of something bigger
