An opportunity has opened for a confident and motivated individual to join our pharmacy cancer services team. Cancer services have had to adapt hugely during this pandemic, and at DGT we continue to improve our pathways to ensure our patients get the best care possible.

We are a closely-knitted team, and have strong working relationships with our local cancer services team, as well as the regional Kent and Medway Cancer Collaborative and GSTT Alliance.

We have recently revamped our oral chemotherapy pathway to improve the quality of care our patients receive. We are currently implementing pharmacist prescribing clinics with both Oncology and Haematology teams, and looking to further expand our service provision.

At Darent Valley, we emphasise on the importance of holistic patient care. An ideal candidate would be a pharmacist who wants to specialised in oncology/haematology, whilst looking to maintain generalist practices.

Main duties of the job

The innovative use of IT is important to us and we are continually looking for new opportunities. We have robotic dispensing, bar-coded prescription tracking, electronic discharge and mobile prescribing intervention systems and also the use of the ARIA electronic prescribing system for cancer.

The post will be based at the pharmacy department Darent Valley Hospital, and we are looking for a person, who can work both on the wards as well as in the chemotherapy dispensary.

Candidates must be enthusiastic and innovative and able to communicate ideas clearly and effectively. You must possess good IT skills.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To undertake clinical review of all oncology/haematology prescriptions and non-cancer prescriptions including clinical trial prescriptions for those products supplied by the chemotherapy dispensary, including adult parenteral nutrition, and monoclonal antibody preparations.

To provide medicines optimisation and medicines reconciliation services to achieve department priorities and targets on a designated ward or group of wards as decided by the Lead Clinical Pharmacists.

You must be currently registered with the GPhC as a pharmacist and previous hospital experience is essential with previous cancer experience as desirable. You must also have a Clinical Diploma/equivalent or be working towards one.

There will be an opportunity to train as an Independent Prescriber.

GPhC registration as a pharmacist Post graduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy (or working towards/ demonstrable equivalent clinical pharmacy experience)

Desirable

MSc or equivalent postgraduate qualification in Clinical Pharmacy Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society Member of BOPA Pharmacist independent prescriber OR working towards the qualification OR will undertake the qualification.
