Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic,motivated, and competent clinician to become part of our friendly team at theLymington Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) in the New Forest, Hampshire. This isan exciting opportunity for an experienced primary care practitioner (nurse orparamedic) to expand their scope of practice to include minor injurypresentations and gain experience in urgent care.

We are looking for a talented individual to join us on permanent basis. The position holder will be given a 4 week rolling rota and we can offer between hours per week.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the role include;

Working as part of the clinical and operational team to deliver high standards of patient centred care. Effectively liaise with the multidisciplinary teams across the primary and secondary care interface as well as the PHL Clinical and Operational teams. Engage with key stakeholders as required, to ensure a high standard of patient centred care is being delivered.

Job responsibilities

The successful applicant should be a registered nurse or paramedic with a good background of emergency care and autonomous practice/prescribing in primary care. The role will allow an expansion of your training portfolio and scope of practice to include minor injury presentations such as suturing, plastering, and reduction of dislocations etc.. For this we will commit to support the successful candidate/s with suitable minor injury courses, immediate life support courses, x-ray interpretation course, and mentoring/competency completion. Because we recognise that full-time hours may not allow the degree of flexibility to continue working in primary care, so we welcome candidates looking for part-time hours, as well those looking for full time hours. There is also the additional option to work in out-of-hours as part of our Extended Access service seeing primary care patients.

Your key responsibilities will include:

Assess undifferentiated patients with a range of acute, non-acute and chronic medical conditions (may have some restrictions on competence such as seeing babies). Take history, make appropriate physical examinations, formulate differential diagnoses and formulate/manage treatment plans when working in any clinical environment. Refer and facilitate patient pathways through appropriate referrals to primary, community, secondary and tertiary care for patients when necessary Request investigations and be able to interpret radiology results. Prescribe medication as required within your clinical competence. Recognise the need and initiate emergency treatment to save life or to safeguard the interests of the patient and refer to emergency services when appropriate. Recognise any social needs, safeguarding concerns and act appropriately to safeguard the patient. To ensure that patients are safely discharged from our care with appropriate instructions for after care and follow up. To take an active role within the cross-disciplinary, multi-skilled team to ensure service quality in line with corporate goals and strategies and provide mentorship and support to junior staff when required. Experience

Essential

2 years experience of working at nurse practitioner or specialist paramedic level. At least 5 years post qualification experience. Good knowledge and experience in the assessment and management of minor injury and illness presentations. Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team. Good organisational skills in the ability to manage and prioritise own workload. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, clear understanding of professional responsibilities and accountability.

Desirable

Accident and emergency or urgent treatment centre experience. Experience of telephone triage assessment and relevant pathways/electronic prescribing, good knowledge of primary care referral pathways such as 2-week-wait referrals, good knowledge of QOF and locally commissioned services

Qualifications

Essential

Registered with the NMC/HCPC, non-medical prescriber, completion of level 7 modules including history taking, patient examination and decision-making module. Working towards PgDip/MSc qualification, minor illness and minor injury qualification or the COP specialist, paramedic qualification, level 3 safeguarding of adults and children, must be able to demonstrate and meet competencies of all mandatory training as required within the policies of the organisation. Must be able to clear an enhanced DBS check.

Desirable

IRMER qualification, red dot qualification, experience of lab result interpretation, teaching and mentorship qualification.
