University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust are looking for a Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician to join our pharmacy teams at Westmorland General Hospital.

Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician - 2 year fixed term.

This post attracts a trainee salary under Annex U/21 of Agenda for Change:

o Year1 - 70% of the top of a Band4

o Year2 - 75% of the top of a Band4

You must possess 4 GCSE's (grade C and above) including English, Maths and Chemistry (Dual Science Award accepted) plus one other science subject.

Main duties of the job

Together with full hospital training, you will study part time day release at Kendal College for a BTEC diploma in applied science (pharmaceutical), and an NVQ 3 in Pharmacy Services within the workplace.

Upon successful completion of both of these qualifications you will be able to register as qualified Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council.

This is a training post; the duties will reflect progress of the training programme and be undertaken under close instruction work as a member of the Pharmacy team to provide safe,timely, appropriate and high quality pharmaceutical services forpatients and participate in providing medication for in-patients, outpatients,leave of absence and discharge.

About us

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Education and qualifications

Essential

English, Maths and Science to GCSE level (or equivalent) Grade C or above NVQ2 in Pharmacy services or working towards

Experience

Essential

Recent experience of working within a pharmacy department in hospital or community

Desirable

Experience in Hospital Pharmacy

Skills, ability and knowledge

Essential

Good communication skills, written and oral Good IT skills and familiarity with Pharmacy computer system Attention to detail Flexibility and ability to work accurately under pressure Ability to cope with work, college and study
