Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, innovative and highly motivated individual to join the GMMH Corporate Safeguarding Team as the Trusts Named Nurse for Child Safeguarding.

The postholder will lead on the child safeguarding agenda and be responsible for ensuring that the Trust carries out its statutory duties in relation to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

The post holder must hold a current nursing qualification and have demonstrable post registration experience in child safeguarding.

Main duties of the job

As the Named Nurse for Safeguarding Children you will be responsible for ensuring the Trust carries out its statutory duties with respect to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

To assist with the development and implementation of the Trust's safeguarding children agenda, and ensure that Trust policies, procedures and governance systems meet statutory and national requirements in relation to safeguarding children.

To support the Head of Safeguarding to ensure that the Trust contributes to multi-agency safeguarding children's work alongside specialist safeguarding professionals from other organisations and bodies, including Children's social care, education, and health, and in the planning and development of strategies for safeguarding.

To ensure that safeguarding concerns are monitored and dealt with in a timely and effective way across the organisation.

To have oversight of performance data in relation to safeguarding children and complete audits to monitor activity and provide assurances in relation to standards and practice.

To ensure that the training delivery plan meets national and local requirements.

To represent the Trust at multi-agency safeguarding partnership meetings and sub-groups.

To contribute and participate in multi-agency safeguarding reviews and embed the lessons learnt.

To provide safeguarding supervision to individuals and teams across the Trust.

Job responsibilities

Essential requirements for the post include:

Registered practitioner RMN, Social Work, significant experience of a leadership role in child safeguarding, highly specialist knowledge and understanding of working with complex family situations, mental health and substance misuse in relation to safeguarding children, legal literacy in relation to child safeguarding and the ability to work effectively as part of a team and to recognise and support the needs of others in a sensitive and effective manner.

Qualifications/Experience

Essential

Registered practitioner RMN, RGN, Midwife Significant experience of leadership role for child safeguarding Multi-agency working, National agenda for the NHS, Clinical Governance

Desirable

Teaching qualification Childcare Law, policy and practice

Essential

Evidence of post registration education and development relevant to safeguarding children, child development and welfare. Able to provide evidence of continuous professional development

Skills

Essential

Excellent verbal, written and communication skills. Standard key board skills and use of training equipment and materials including designing and delivering training via Teams and PowerPoint. Frequent requirement for prolonged concentration whilst also experiencing regular and unpredictable interruptions and work patterns - possessing an ability to change from one activity or priority to another quickly and efficiently. Flexible working to meet the needs of the service. Interpersonal, negotiation and risk assessments skills

Specialist Knowledge

Highly specialist knowledge and understanding of working with complex family situations, mental health, substance misuse in relation to safeguarding children Highly specialist knowledge of the recognition and assessment of children at risk of significant harm Understanding of the National agenda for Child Safeguarding/Children in Need Legal literacy - child safeguarding.

Desirable

Specific expertise in children's health and development, child maltreatment and local arrangements for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children In-depth knowledge on Childcare Law, policy and practice
