Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Band 5 Dietitian to join our Integrated Nutrition and Dietetic service at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust. This is based in our community team at Kingsgate House. The team comprises of an Integrated Nutrition and Dietetic Service Lead, Team leader, band 7, band 6 dietitians, Dietetic Support Worker and Secretary. We are integrated service with the Acute dietetic service at Stepping Hill Hospital and patient education colleagues.

The role will be focused on providing a high standard of dietetic care to community patients requiring nutritional support. There will be opportunities working alongside senior dietitians in their specialist areas. You will have involvement with general outpatient clinics.

Newly qualified staff are required to complete a Preceptorship programme. Professional development is encouraged through supervision, appraisal, mandatory training and CPD activities. Supervision is provided by senior clinical staff.

Main duties of the job

Optimise the clinical progress and quality of life of patients by providing individualised nutritional assessments, evidence-based recommendations and care plans across designated wards and clinics.

Work as a committed member of both the Community Dietetic team and the Integrated Nutrition and Dietetic service, contributing to the achievement of Departmental, Team and Trust goals.

Provide relevant advice and training to other health care professionals.

Participate in service development.

Provide specialist knowledge across a range of procedures underpinned by theory

Job responsibilities

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Provide a clinical Nutrition and Dietetic Service to patients living in their own homes and care settings and, outpatient clinics at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust. Attend relevant meetings and liaise with medical, paramedical and nursing staff as necessary. Act as a resource for nutrition and dietetic information and advice to other professionals. Assist in updating and development of diet sheets and new teaching materials. Participate in menu checking for inpatients on therapeutic diets and liaise with the Catering Department for the provision of therapeutic diets. Assist with training and updating healthcare professionals, regarding evidence-based nutrition therapy, including giving lectures and informal talks. Collect all data necessary to meet local information requirements and as required by the Nutrition and Dietetic Service for service monitoring. Participate in quality assurance programmes, and development and maintenance of service standards, policies & procedures. Participate in personal and professional development through objective setting and regular job review. Work as a committed and effective member of the dietetic staff in order to maximise the potential of the service and profession. Maintain professional competence and expertise by keeping up to date with current research, working practices and models of working. Provide dietetic cover for other wards and hospitals as necessary.

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential

Degree in Human Nutriton and Dietetics or Postgraduate Diploma in Dietetics Registered member of the HCPC

Desirable

Member of the British Dietetic Association Approved courses or study days which support dietetic knowledge and/or practice

Knowledge

Essential

Professional knowledge acquired through relevent science-based degree Specialist knowledge across a range of nutrition and dietetic procedures, underpinned by theory Awareness of audit and its role in clinical practice Awareness of policies, procedures and guidelines

Desirable
