Roads Network Inspectors

Inverness, United Kingdom BEAR Scotland Full time

Fantastic opportunities have arisen to join BEAR Scotland’s NW team as a Road Network Inspector or an Asset Inspector.

The North West Trunk Road Unit spans some 1,422km of trunk road through some of the most scenic parts of the country. It also includes 1,501 bridges and structures, including the Kessock Bridge which carries the A9 north of Inverness and the A87 Skye Crossing.

The North West Unit covers a huge area of Scotland, from Thurso and Wick in the very north of the Highlands down to Campbeltown in Argyll and Bute, from Uig on Skye to Perth and Stirling in the central belt.

Role includes:

Undertaking weekly daytime Safety Inspections and Safety Patrols to record defects that represent a
hazard to the travelling public and, where safe to do so, carrying out minor repairs. Undertaking two weekly / monthly night-time Safety Inspections of illuminated assets and six-monthly
Safety Inspections of reflective assets. Walked condition inspections to visually assess the condition of the assets to identify defects that will
contribute to the establishment of programmes of routine maintenance tasks that do not require urgent Walked conditions inspections to validate the inventory held in the Transport Scotland
Asset Management Performance System and to collect and update the inventory
when changes are made.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

As the role of an Inspector can involve interaction with the public, candidates will be
subject to the basic disclosure process through Disclosure Scotland. Although previous experience of road maintenance is preferable, it is not essential as
training and mentoring will be provided. Candidates must however have good computer skills as all inspections are carried out using data capture devices that download to Transport
Scotland’s Asset Management Performance System. Experience of Microsoft Word and Excel will also be useful. A full approved driving licence is essential.

Why BEAR?

BEAR Scotland currently manages, maintains and improves 1962km of Scottish trunk road including over 2000 bridges and structures through some of the most scenic, but challenging, parts of the country. That means delivering £million investment on road maintenance and improvement every year.
