Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Team, Basildon Mental Health Unit

If you are looking for a change and a new challenge this could be the opportunity you are looking for. A vacancy has arisen for a Band 6 Senior Occupational Therapist working within the Crisis Resolution Home Treatment team, based at Basildon MHU. Whilst the role is primarily within the CRHT, there will be opportunities to liaise with our OT inpatient colleagues in order to support the smooth transition for patients from the wards back into the community.

This post will particularly suit a motivated, experienced, treatment focused and skilled Occupational Therapist, who is competent in the management of clients with a focus on utilising Occupational Therapy approaches and interventions that support recovery through this time of crisis care.

Main duties of the job

This is an ideal opportunity to promote the role of OT within a busy, multidisciplinary team, including nurses, another Band 6 OT, support workers, psychiatrists and psychology. We are seeking a resilient, enthusiastic individual with good people skills, an ability to work flexibly, positively and autonomously with clients. A good sense of humour also helps You will be managing your own caseload and there may also be some opportunity for developing group work across a care pathway.

As an individual you will have commitment to continue your own development and actively participate in providing a variety of learning opportunities for the team and service. In return we offer excellent training and development through our Workforce Development Department and within the service. Support is maintained through regular supervision, an OT support forum and yearly appraisals to assist you, the successful candidate, in setting realistic objectives enabling you in maintaining a positive attitude towards delivering quality customer care.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical Duties:

To assess clients referred to the service. To undertake specialist ADL assessments when required. To make decisions on the level of treatment intervention required and undertake treatment planning; communicating and negotiating treatment plans and clinical reasoning for intervention with clients and their carers. To communicate agreed treatment/care plans to multi-disciplinary team colleagues and partnership agencies and liaise with them at formal and informal meetings. To work in collaboration with others to modify aspects of the environment in order to empower clients and facilitate optimal functional performance. To liaise with in-patient and community based services to ensure smooth transfer of care through the services. To provide OT specific interventions to meet the needs of clients using individual or group formats, utilising clinical reasoning processes to determine the most appropriate method of treatment. To make clinically informed decisions in order to delegate aspects of client care to assistants, junior staff, students, carers and statutory or non-statutory bodies. To regularly review clients progress in order to evaluate and interpret effectiveness of treatment plans, and amend treatment or discharge clients accordingly. To ensure that treatment offered is based on the best available evidence for effectiveness in the specialist area where it is applied. To develop and initiate interventions based on the integration of theoretical knowledge in order to meet unique client needs. To keep up to date clinical records in line with professional standards and local record keeping policies. To provide written and verbal reports as required at any stage in the treatment process in line with Occupational Therapy Clinical Governance Standards.

Indirect Clinical Duties:

To attend clinical case discussions at meetings or ward rounds. To participate in clinical audit, research and evidence based practice. To undertake day to day clinical prioritisation and work planning for small teams. To identify clinical service needs and initiate projects, which could be developed in order to meet challenges. To promote the roles and skills of Occupational Therapy to other professionals, students, clients and carers. To contribute constructively to multi-disciplinary team working.

Profession Specific Duties:

To attend professional Occupational Therapy meetings as required. To take responsibility for developing as a professional. To maintain a continuing professional development portfolio. To undertake annual appraisal. To contribute constructively to the supervision process. To provide supervision to junior staff and students. To occasionally represent the Occupational Therapy profession at service development forums. To comply with policies and agreed procedures for annual leave, sickness and time owing. To complete daily diary sheets for statistical purposes. To supervise a minimum of one student per year.
