Electrical Workshop Operative/Improver

Role Purpose
Working as part of a small team in a busy workshop, this varied role involves the receipt of general materials along with plant and electrical equipment from a broad range of specialist suppliers.
You will be involved in the repairing, picking of our electrical equipment for daily issue to our installation teams for installation on sites across the Midlands.
Some of our equipment (transformers, drums of cable etc) are heavy items, applicants must therefore be physically able to handle such equipment.
Basic repairs, cleaning and servicing of temporary electrical equipment returned from construction sites along with some assembly activities is another part of the role.
Further training will be provided in the electrical aspects of the position together with manual handling and site awareness. Whilst working as an Improver you will report to the Regional t Manager. You will gain experience whilst working on site under the guidance of the Workshop lead. You will assist in and carry out all aspects of electrical and plumbing temporary services
Main Responsibilities and Accountabilities of the role
- To fully follow company procedures and processes to ensure company standards are met regarding Health and Safety within the Warehouse and driver functions.
- To work in an environmentally aware manner to recycle and avoid wastage wherever possible.
- Check returned plant for damage and shortages, reporting these to the Service team leader
- To carry out the accurate and prompt paperwork that may be necessary.
- Assist the workshop team leader to supervise the warehouse operation whilst always setting a good example yourself
- Warehouse security i.e. Plant/ materials and security of building to include key holder and setting of alarms where required.
- To assist with Warehouse stock controls/stock takes etc
- To maintain a suitable level of tidiness and housekeeping.
- Occasional cover for delivery driver duties may be required.
- Develop skills by assisting the electrical installation team
- Under supervision, carry out basic electrical work
- Manual handling such as moving plant, positioning equipment and cable pulling
- If appropriately training, erect and locate access equipment
- Basic understanding of temporary electrical / plumbing installtions
- Keep all work areas clean and tidy, including company vehicles
Skills and Experience
Essential
- Good basic education and qualifications
- Electrical component knowledge and/or maintenance experience
- Ideally live within a reasonable commute of Wellingborough
- A full clean driving license
- Current JIB / CSCS Card – Preferred but not essential
Preferred
- Experience of a similar role and accountabilities
Support and Training
The successful applicant will be expected to undertake departmental specific development and training. And will be provided with comprehensive training plan for the role which will include spending time working with other teams in the business.

We offer a competitive salary and, following successful completion of probation, we provide Private Medical and Dental Insurance. Other benefits include 23 days annual leave rising to 25 days with service plus public holidays and childcare vouchers. Life insurance is provided to staff with over 1 year’s continuous service.
