London, United Kingdom Financial Ombudsman Services Full time

Contract:

Permanent

Reporting to: Director of Transformation and Continuous Improvement

Location: London, Docklands. Our permanent hybrid policy sees us all working four days across a fortnight in the office.

At the Financial Ombudsman Service, we’re working to enhance our service by setting the standard for modern, efficient, accessible alternative dispute resolution.

Over recent years, the Service has undertaken significant change to improve our customer experience and our financial sustainability. We have big ambitions and we’re determined to move at pace.

As Portfolio Delivery Manager, you’ll lead a team of Project Managers to deliver the Service’s change portfolio and enable business benefits to be realised. The successful delivery of programmes and projects is at the heart of our plan for the organisation.

You’ll need to proactively manage the size and skills in your team, balancing permanent resources for cost optimisation with temporary resources where needed and you’ll be accountable for the delivery of the portfolio, ensuring that projects are delivered within time, budget and under governance. Using both quantitative and qualitative metrics you will constantly review both project and team performance, with direct reports held accountable for the effectiveness of their delivery and the quality of the data they present.

A large part of your role will be to develop the Service’s change capability and provide coaching to your team members to continually drive-up professional standards, ensuring that projects and programmes meet business requirements and align to the Service’s strategy.

Whether in support of your team, or part of a continual drive to improve our approach you’ll be working closely with the rest of the leadership team across the Service. The relationships that you build and maintain are critical to the credibility and success of the Transformation and Change function.

Key responsibilities

Leading, inspiring and managing your team, acting as the point of escalation to both your team and to customers

Driving the successful delivery of the portfolio through your team, managing performance and development accordingly.

Building strong relationships with Stakeholders across the organisation, including senior level.

Making sure we have the right skills in place to deliver the change pipeline

Ensuring your team deliver projects on time, within budget and to a high level of quality, holding them to account when this doesn’t happen

Ensuring that both process and technical designs come together to meet requirements

Ensuring timely reporting of the status of in-flight projects, including budget and adherence to planned delivery timelines

Ensuring that accurate performance data, both quantitative and qualitative, is available from your team, and acting on this data to drive improvements

Using your experience and knowledge to develop and improve our approach to programme, project and change management, driving up the capability of the whole team

Minimum Criteria

Experience of successfully leading, coaching and mentoring diverse teams of people working across a range of business and technology projects and disciplines. You will have the ability to set out and deliver a clear vision for your team which aligns with corporate strategy and goals.

A proven track record of delivering complex change projects which have contained a combination of hardware and software deployments, system integration, people, process and procedure.

You’ll work across a diverse portfolio from IT through to cross functional projects, but you will need to be comfortable working across digital/IT portfolio projects.

Experience of working extensively with senior stakeholders including executive and C Suite level.

A qualification in relevant project, programme and change delivery methodologies such as PRINCE2, MSP, MoP, P3O, PMP and APMP

Certified in a recognised product management methodology ( Scrum Alliance)

We also offer an attractive, competitive salary and flexible benefits to suit our people. Here’s a list of some of the many benefits and perks you can get for working with us:

25 days holiday entitlement, with the option to buy extra or sell days

Generous pension

Employer provided benefits such as Private medical insurance, virtual GP, Critical illness cover, Life assurance cover, to name a few

Fully equipped on-site gym open 24 / 7 (London office only)

Extensive Well-being resources including on-site therapists (London office only)

Beautiful and bright London office looking over the Thames and near to mainline stations

Our Coventry office is 2 minutes’ walk from the main station

Our employee led networks do fantastic work in educating and raising awareness across a range of experiences and support us in being an inclusive employer and a great place to work. You can get involved, too

We view diversity as fundamental to our success and welcome applications from underrepresented groups across all communities.

We’re committed to being a great place to work– attracting and developing people from the widest possible range of backgrounds. We want everyone to perform at their best and feel able to be themselves. We understand that if we’re diverse and inclusive, we’ll better understand different perspectives, which is fundamental to our job resolving financial complaints.
