We are looking for a passionate and dedicated Student Union Engagement Officer to join our team and help us support our learners in their personal and academic development.

Job Purpose

As a Student Union Engagement Officer, you will engage with learners to plan and develop cultural, social, and sporting activities that support and increase learner retention. You will work alongside learners to foster a sense of belonging and personal responsibility, contributing positively to their skills beyond the technical and vocational. You will also contribute to the Personal Development, Behaviour, and Attitudes (PDBA) agenda across the group.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support student rep meetings in partnership with the Student Development and Enrichment Worker.
  • Work directly with learners identified as at risk due to disruptive or inappropriate behaviour.
  • Contribute to learner voice systems for effective communication with the learner population.
  • Liaise with curriculum staff to track learners during and after their involvement in enrichment and wellbeing activities.
  • Encourage participation and representation through the Student Rep and Parliament system.
  • Deliver positive activities and programmes promoting inclusion and addressing anti-social behaviour.
  • Support the monitoring and evaluation of learner experiences.
  • Maintain a visible and accessible presence in areas frequented by learners.
  • Contribute to the development of an annual programme of social, cultural, and sporting activities and events.
  • Participate in PDBA Programme, Open Days, Cross Group events, and Induction.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Vocational/professional qualifications relevant to the post, such as Youth Work or Social Work.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience working with young people in a youth setting, social work setting, or advocacy role.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and Prevent in the context of Further Education.
  • Experience working with young people in difficult circumstances or displaying challenging behaviour.
