Supervise center maintenance personnel. Performing preventative maintenance and repairs on all HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems. Develop and coordinate routine facilities inspections and maintenance schedules. Arrange for and oversee the work of outside contractors and repairmen. Plan and carry out major facilities remodeling projects. Maintain a functional Research Center farm equipment repair shop and supervise the shop staff. Position Overview This position independently performs semi-skilled maintenance and repair duties that vary widely depending on the work and projects assigned. It is responsible for inspecting, maintaining and repairing university equipment and facilities. The position will provide support for a variety of construction, trade and maintenance groups to meet university needs.Duties may include: Perform routine maintenance and repairs to university facilities Assist trades, crafts, vendors and technical staff with construction, design and operational maintenance as needed Repair and maintain machinery, equipment and facilities Perform routine and non-routine facility inspections and monitor cleanliness Receive, inspect, inventory and distribute deliveries independently to appropriate entities Other duties as assigned Unit URL Position Qualifications Required Experience Three years performing semi-skilled maintenance tasks Required Education High School Diploma or equivalent Required Other Possess a valid driver’s license and be able to meet policy requirements for driving university-owned vehicles Be at least 18 years of age Ability to be on call 24/7 and respond to emergencies within one hour. Additional Preferred Experience and or Ability:Maintaining maintenance records and preparing related reports; estimating material needs and costs for maintenance and construction projectsWorking with contractors and vendorsCertifications/Licenses in skilled tradesWritten and verbal communication skillsBuilding maintenance and operations functions, building energy conservation techniques, building codes and regulations, skilled repair and maintenance in HVAC, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, building maintenance, and groundsMethods, materials, and equipment used in custodial workPerforming landscaping and sprinkler system installation and maintenance EPA and OSHA safety codes and practicesSupervising staff and training employeesPerforming commercial building facility maintenanceReading and interpreting blueprints and plansEvaluating maintenance needs of buildings and related facilities Physical Requirements & Working Conditions Must be able to:
o Bend, stoop and work in awkward positions for several hours at a time
o Climb and work from ladders, scaffolding and scissor lifts
o Carry, lift or otherwise move items weighing up to 50 pounds
o Stand and walk continuously throughout the workday
