The Peripheral Nerve Injury Unit at the RNOH was founded over 50 years ago and is the largest of its kind in the UnitedKingdom and treats all aspects of surgical disorders of the peripheral nerve injury of the brachial and lumbo-sacral plexusincluding pain management and rehabilitation.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The post holder will be expected to develop knowledge both clinically and surgically over the 12-month fellowship. Thefellow will also develop sufficient knowledge and leadership in order to take a leading role as a consultant in a departmentdealing with complex peripheral nerve injury surgery. During the course of the fellowship emphasis will be given to manyfacets of the job not just the technical aspects of surgery and performance of outpatient clinics but also on team working,coordination, and management including discharge planning aim of the fellowship is to provide training and research opportunities in PNI surgery over a 12 month period. This fellowship will provide exposure to all aspects of the management of patients undergoing complex PNI surgery. There will be no on-call duties. The fellow will work alongside all 4 PNI Consultants. The post holder alongside the consultant body will be expected to supervise the junior members of the team, as well as attend and help with the out-patient clinics. They will also be first assistant during surgery. Whilst this is a non-training postthere will be opportunities to operate according to your is anticipated that the post holder will be post MRCS and core surgical training or equivalent. The delivery of high qualitypatient care is essential and contribution towards the units research and audit activity is actively encouraged.
