Main duties of the job

To develop team dentistry by applying appropriate skills to a widerange of cases.

To provide a wide range of dental treatment, appropriate to a registereddental therapist and hygienist at the request of dentists

The additional duties of a dental therapist will include the following:

obtain a detailed dentalhistory from service users and evaluate their medical history

carry out a clinicalexamination within their competence

complete periodontalexamination and charting and use indices to screen and monitor periodontaldisease

diagnose and treatment planwithin their competence

prescribe radiographs

take, process and interpretvarious film views used in general dental practice

plan the delivery of care forservice users

give appropriate serviceusers advice

provide preventive oral care to service users and liaise withdentists over the treatment of caries, periodontal disease and tooth wear undertake supragingival andsubgingival scaling and root surface debridement using manual and poweredinstruments

Essential

iploma in Dental Therapy Certificate of Proficiency in Dental Hygiene Current full General Dental Council registration.
