Manchester, United Kingdom Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Educational Fellow to join the Emergency Department at Wythenshawe Hospital.

The successful candidate will lead on, coordinate and deliver the teaching programme for clinical medical students on placement in the Emergency Department. The job plan will have both an educational and a clinical component with approximately 50% allocated to each.

The educational role will involve further developing the education programme for medical students and ensuring that teaching schedules are both achievable and met. The clinical level is expected to be at ST1/2 level or equivalent or more senior depending on the experience of the post-holder.

Main duties of the job

The main purpose of the job is to take a coordinating role for the large number of medical students who are attached to the Emergency Department. Both student firms and individual students are attached to named consultants but the day to day management of their activity and teaching and compliance with their curriculum needs regular monitoring to ensure maximum benefit.

The Fellow will be expected to review the current systems in use and refine the Emergency Department medical student programme at all levels. The Fellow will support and help teach the students clinically and be directed towards their educational benefit rather than service delivery to the ED during educational time. The Fellow will also be actively engaged with the Undergraduate Department on the Wythenshawe site. This will entail involvement with the simulation ensuring that the ED is properly engaged with this, developing and delivering training scenarios for ED students and other trainees. He/she will also be expected to help with other aspects of undergraduate teaching outside the department Themed Case Discussion teaching, OSCE examinations, revision sessions, ad hoc teaching etc. In addition, the Fellow may occasionally be allocated to teach students on placements outside the Emergency Department as required.
