Job Overview
We invite qualified candidates to consider the position of Senior Locally Employed Doctor within our Emergency Medicine Department. Applicants must possess eligibility for GMC registration, as the Trust is unable to provide sponsorship for permanent roles.
The successful candidates will be integrated into a comprehensive rota team serving a Major Trauma Centre with a dedicated helipad, emphasizing care for penetrating trauma cases.
Our department offers similar educational opportunities as those available to senior emergency medicine trainees, including access to a dedicated educational supervisor, workplace-based assessments, in-house simulation training, audit participation, medical student instruction, journal club involvement, POCUS training, virtual case discussions, and learning experiences. We are actively engaged in research and provide excellent academic mentorship.

Key Responsibilities
The role requires participation in a 24-hour rota, encompassing day, night, and weekend shifts. Responsibilities include patient assessment, primary diagnosis, and initiation of emergency interventions. Emergency medicine consultants are available on the floor from 08:00 to 00:00, with a rapid response for major trauma cases outside these hours. The rota adheres to the 2016 Terms and Conditions.
The workload will involve managing minor injuries, ambulatory patients, major cases, resuscitation, and trauma incidents, as well as overseeing our Clinical Decision Unit. Our department operates in a busy urban environment, catering to a diverse population with unique medical and social needs, resulting in a varied and stimulating case mix.
As a trainee, your primary duty will be to deliver safe, effective, and timely care to patients presenting to the Emergency Department. You will also provide mentorship to junior colleagues and, as your role evolves, you will take on responsibilities such as patient streaming, workforce direction, and departmental management. Adherence to GMC guidelines on good medical practice and compliance with Trust policies regarding infection control, sickness reporting, and risk management is expected.
