Graduate Teaching Assistant - SEMH (Primary)

Location: Gateshead, Newcastle

Salary Scale: £75-100 per day
Start Date: September 2024
Contract type: Part-time/Full-time

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young learners with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs?

GSL Education is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Graduate Teaching Assistant (GRAD TA) to work in a primary school in Gateshead that specializes in supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the development and well-being of children who require additional support in their learning environment.

Job Summary:

As a GRAD TA, you will be working closely with class teachers to support students with SEMH needs, helping to create a positive and nurturing learning environment. The role will involve assisting with lesson delivery, supporting individual students or small groups, and contributing to the emotional and social development of the children. This is a highly rewarding role for individuals who are passionate about education and mental health.

Responsibilities of a GRAD TA – SEMH (Primary):

  • Support the class teacher in delivering engaging and effective lessons.
  • Assist with the academic, emotional, and social development of students with SEMH needs.
  • Provide one-on-one support to students, helping them to overcome barriers to learning.
  • Contribute to the creation of a positive learning environment.
  • Work collaboratively with the school's SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) team.

Qualifications of a GRAD TA – SEMH (Primary):

  • A degree in a relevant field is preferred.
  • Experience working with children, particularly those with SEMH needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • A patient and empathetic approach to working with children.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection policies.
