An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the dynamic Medical Photography Department.
Medical Photographer Band 5 WTE - 18 months fixed term
Would you like to start, or develop, your career in medical photography in a dynamic, supportive team based in thestate-of-the-art medical photography facility in the Brunel Building.
We are seeking a compassionate, motivated individual with a degree in medical photography or a degree in photography plus relevant clinical experience. In addition, the successful candidate will be AHCS registered/eligible or qualified to a registerable level.
The department provides a critical service supporting excellent care across the Trust and you will be delivering a high-quality comprehensive service including medical photography/video (studio/ward/clinic/theatre) and ophthalmic photography. Excellent communication/interpersonal skills, and a thorough understanding of image management / digital technology is essential.
You will support the department leadership by ensuring the quality and consistency of photographs and videos produced by the department as well as maintaining IMI QAS Level 2, undertaking regular audits and training with the team as required and working with the Head of Department/Seniors Photographers to continually develop and improve the service.
You will be able to demonstrate an ability to work independently, and with the team, to manage the workload and deliver projects within agreed timelines.
Main duties of the job
To provide a medical photography/video service to inpatients and outpatients of NBT as part of their medical records, medico-legal work, research, teaching and/or publication.
To deliver a service in line with the departmental and Trust guidelines, abiding by all consent, confidentiality and legal guidelines.
To provide a photographic/video support service for public relations activities undertaken by the Trust following national and local standards.
To support the multi-skilling work within the department to ensure an efficient service is delivered in line with departmental service level agreements.
To demonstrate increasing independence and reduction in levels of support as medical photography professional competencies develop
Actively engage in continuing professional development

Job responsibilities
Medical Photography
Create medical photography/video adhering to standard medical views accurately in the studio and while out in wards, clinics, and theatres.
Apply professional photographic knowledge to ensure the quality of images are optimised in accordance with standard views
Assess situations and assisting patients with dressing/undressing to ensure appropriate medical photography/video views are obtained.
Accountable for own actions working within department guidelines, policies, and procedures.
Provide Ophthalmic and Medical Legal photography adhering to SLAs and agreed timelines.
Digital processing and finishing of images for the Medical Image Management System (MIMS).
Act as a support resource to non-medical photography staff in the use of the WABA medical pics App.
Processing and managing images provided by others, from out of hours services, for upload into MIMS
Accurate data entry and updates within the Job Management System (JMS)
Support the department in maintaining the quality assurance accreditation level 2 from the Institute of Medical Illustrators (IMI)
Ensuring all specialist medical photography equipment is always managed safely and secure
Media
Undertake public relations photography
Medical photography for patient leaflets, teaching, research, posters etc.
Accurate data entry within the Job Management System (JMS)
Support income generation activities as appropriate
Multi-skilling
Participate fully within the multi-skilling rota covering photography, video, fundus/OCT, and poster printing
Able to adjust short term plans / day rota to reflect the demands of the medical photography and illustration department
Medical video recording and editing, as appropriate
Competent to undertake fundus photography and OCT/OCT-A
Undertake poster printing
Training and personal development
Support the training, and development of junior / less experienced staff
Maintain own competence within medical photography and associated information technology.
Maintain own competence to enable full participation in the multi-skilling rota delivering a safe, effective and efficient service
To be pro-active in maintaining a Continuous Professional Development Plan
Service Evaluation and Planning
To participate in service evaluation and development initiatives within the Medical Photography. This may include evaluation of service level agreement, models of service delivery, and ensuring effectiveness.
To attend Departmental meetings and liaise with the Head of Dept / Senior Photographers on Health & Safety, cover, leave and general issues, so that good communication is maintained.
To develop a working knowledge of the principles of Clinical Governance and their application to professional practice.
Resource Management
To be responsible for the security and care of equipment and resources used in the course of daily work, ensuring standards of infection control and safety are maintained.
To ensure the safe carriage, storage and proper use of records and equipment, working within lifting and handling guidelines.

Qualifications
Essential
Photography Qualification to Degree Level.
Desirable
BSc degree in Medical Illustration or relevant photography/media degree plus Institute of Medical Illustrators (IMI) Post Experience Certificate or relevant Photography/Media degree plus appropriate clinical Experience.

General Photographic / Video experience. Experience of working with adults in a health and social care setting and or adults with disabilities in a variety of settings

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Essential
Excellent photographic skills with ability to consistently replicate standard clinical views both photographic & video. Excellent communication skills (verbal, written and email) including the ability to interact with patients as well as liaise with the multi-disciplinary team and wider stakeholders including police, other healthcare providers, solicitors etc. Knowledge and application of appropriate legislation, guidelines and policies. Ability to work on own initiative and within a team organising own work and service workload. Excellent IT skills (Adobe Photoshop, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Premiere etc) with a proven ability for accurate data entry and data checking.
