We are looking for a highly-skilled Principal Teacher who is passionate about improving life chances for all through a professional commitment to leading change and improvement that ensures positives outcomes for our children and young people. As a principal teacher in Fife you will be responsible for supporting the senior leadership team by contributing to the strategic vision for the school, working with a wide range of stakeholders to implement and pursue the objectives set in policies, and for contributing to the development of a self-improving system across the education community.

Job Purpose

It is expected that the PTC will provide strong leadership. The PTC will develop a vision for change which leads to improvements for learners based on shared school values and robust evaluation of evidence of current practice and outcomes. The PTC will be expected to mobilise, enable and support staff to develop and follow-through on strategies for achieving change. The PTC will provide effective management through operational implementation and maintenance of the practices and systems required to achieve change. 

The PTC is responsible for the Maths and Numeracy Curriculum for Excellence. The post-holder is also responsible for a range of learning pathways facilitating progression from the BGE throughout the Senior Phase most of which will result in the achievement of SCQF points/accreditation . SQA National Qualifications, National Units and Group Awards including National Progression Awards.

You will undertake the role of PTC Maths and Numeracy in the leadership, management and strategic direction of colleagues, including the management of attendance, performance (including competence, capability, disciplinary etc. if required) leading, managing and co-ordinating the development of curriculum in designated areas and, in addition, ensuring high quality & consistent learning and teaching across your faculty. You will be responsible for leading peer observations and all self-evaluation in your faculty.

You will be responsible for leadership and management of the ethos within your faculty areas including, all displays and designs / artwork for school promotion and recognition of pupil successes.

There is a possibility that, at some time in the future, the post remit and responsibilities may change as school, council and national priorities are developed.

Qualification, Registration and Skill Requirements

You are required to have high levels of interpersonal skills and abilities which will enable you to work as a member of the senior leadership team to lead and manage school improvement, both at strategic and operational levels, to ensure continuous improvement.

You are required to demonstrate a commitment to your own professional learning as a practitioner through career-long professional learning activity and to be able to show how this has impacted on your practice.

Before confirming your appointment, you will be required to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland and become a member of the relevant PVG scheme.

For posts within Primary you are required to be fully registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) in Primary. 

For posts within Secondary you are required to be fully registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) in Secondary for the specific subject. 

You are required to model all behaviour expected of a teacher in Scotland in line with the relevant Professional Standards. 

Full registration is required for all Permanent posts, for temporary class teacher posts, provisional GTCS registration in the relevant sector will be considered.

Candidates holding GTCS registration in Further Education must also hold Primary or Secondary registration to meet the essential criteria as determined by Fife Council
