ArcelorMittal operates world-class iron ore mines, and these mines are separated into captive and non-captive mines. Captive mines include Mexico, Brazil, South Africa, India, Ukraine, and Bosnia. Non-captive mines include Canada and Liberia. 

The primary role of the Mining Capital department is to manage and own the complete capital process for the Mining segment (non-captive mines). This includes the review of all aspects of a capital request, including technical, commercial, financial, legal, economical information, etc, to ensure the safe and successful delivery of projects once approved.

This involves assembling and leading a team of subject matter experts (“SMEs”) to review the files and then presenting them to the investment committees for approval.

This is an exciting opportunity to take a pivotal role in the world’s leading steel and mining company. As the Capital Coordinator, you will be accustomed to working in a fast-paced environment. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Health and safety leadership and contribution to ArcelorMittal Mining achieving its goal of Zero Harm.
  • Manage the capital process, from receipt of files, reviews with the SMEs, to presentations to decision makers.
  • Identify, engage, and manage the required SMEs, from either within Mining or within the wider AM Group, to ensure an integrated, thorough, and coherent approach.
  • Ensure that capital applications are rigorously reviewed and that they are fully benchmarked.
  • Ensure that capital expenditure is aligned to life-of-mine plans.
  • Coaching and development of the teams to prepare and compile the application to a standard acceptable to the AM Group.
  • Preparation of approval letters and issuing such letters to the respective units.
  • Build strong relationships with the investment committees.
  • Deputise for the Capital Manager and represent Mining during investment meetings.
  • Provide strategic guidance to business units’ capital teams.
  • Lead post-completion reviews of projects to understand how the project was delivered to H&S, cost, time, quality, and scope.
  • Ensure a continuous improvement philosophy is adopted with capital requests.

STRATEGIC IMPLICATIONS

  • Implement best practices in rigorous sustaining capex process, gating, and review process across the operating units. Capex aligned to life-of-mine plans, reviewed, and managed.
  • Ensure for each asset it is reviewed, best technical solution, lowest spend for most reliable, lowest opex operations.
  • Coach and guide assets capex teams so that they produce best-in-class files.
  • Capital management and coordination.
  • Leverage AM Group’s technical knowledge for value generation in review of capital files.

 

PROFILE OF JOB HOLDER

  • 5+ years background in heavy industry, preferably mining.
  • Proven experience in delivering large capital projects in all phases of the project lifecycle.
  • A strong record demonstrating improvement of processes.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of capital approvals process
  • Working knowledge of procurement, financial modelling, and analysis.
  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary working groups to discrete deliverable outcomes.
  • Strong leadership, management, and mentoring skills.
  • Multi-cultural sensitivity.
  • Technical excellence.
  • Ability to travel to business units.
  • Ability to establish credibility and effective working relationships with all operational leaders.
  • Global experience in multi-commodities and very large mining operations.
  • Strong experience in governance processes.
  • Ability to think strategically.
