We are looking for an experienced, inspiring and creative Advanced Learning Support (SLTA) Assistant to join Cambian Scarborough School in Scarborough.

Position: Advanced Learning Support Assistant (SEMH school)

Location: Scarborough

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, term time, permanent position

Salary Details:£22,429.51 per annum

Purpose and summary of job:

The Senior Level Teaching Assistant (SLTA) is responsible for ensuring that the learning support provided in the school is of a high standard. The role will involve carrying out many of the tasks undertaken by a Teaching Assistant (TA) and acting as a good role model in doing so. Additional responsibilities include the day to day supervision of the Teaching Assistants and associated tasks requiring completion in school. An SLTA will be expected to supervise a class group for a period of time in the absence of a Teacher, with assistance from TAs or Care Support Workers and support from senior teaching staff. Excellent interpersonal skills and a high degree of professionalism are essential to the effectiveness of this role.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Support for the student

  • To monitor and promote the highest quality of relationships between Teaching Assistants and students.
  • To provide care and support for individual students and groups in formal, informal and new learning situations.
  • To ensure that students are supported, as appropriate for their specific difficulties, to enable them to participate in learning activities.
  • To plan and carry out intervention sessions to develop pupils’ literacy and numeracy skills.

School Profile

Cambian Scarborough School is an independent day school with up to 20 pupils on roll, aged 8 to 18 years, all of whom have social, emotional, behavioural and mental health difficulties. Pupils are placed in Scarborough School by local authorities and most pupils have an Education Health and Care plan in place.

At Cambian Scarborough School there is a loyal and committed team of staff in place who work very hard on behalf of the pupils who attend. Pupils at Scarborough School are here because they are unable to attend mainstream education for a range of reasons and some have missed significant periods of education prior to joining the school.
