Job summary

A rare opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and experience physiotherapist to work with the breast care unit at York Hospital.

We are seeking a physiotherapist who has excellent communication skills to work alongside the highly specialist physiotherapist and be part of the breast care team.

The team aim to provide a holistic and flexible patient centred approach to meet the needs of this patient s group through different stages of their treatment.

The role gives an excellent opportunity to develop specialist skills in the management of this patient group.

The post is for 10 hours per week and you will be required to work on a Tuesday and Thursday.

Main duties of the job

You will be given the opportunity and support to develop specialist skills in the physiotherapy assessment and management of patients following a breast cancer diagnosis.

The role involves working with patients following breast cancer surgery providing advice on shoulder movement, risk reduction strategies related to lymphoedema, management of cording and scar massage.

Part of the job will involve developing skills in the assessment and management of breast cancer related lymphoedema. Aiming to provide patient education, information, and support to optimize their ability to self-care and manage their condition. Ongoing training and support will be provided to enable you to develop skills to manage this patient group. This will include working alongside the highly specialist physiotherapist post holder, observation, supervision, service development and attendance of external courses. Treatments include simple lymphatic drainage, manual lymphatic drainage, exercise management and compression hosiery advice.

The service works towards developing and improving physiotherapy practice in this area line with local and national guidelines. Involvement in service development and audit is required. The service is primarily an outpatient based service.

Education, Qualifications and Training

Essential

Degree in Physiotherapy HCPC Registered Physiotherapist Evidence of relevant Specialist post graduate CPD activities Evidence of theoretical learning relevant to role

Desirable

Practice placement supervisor qualification

Experience & Knowledge Required

Essential

Experience in a relevant junior role, including the management of a range of conditions, with evidence of additional knowledge acquired through formal and informal training and supervision Developed / Specialist clinical skills within relevant area Delivery of relevant audit and service improvement. Evidence of ability to manage complex clinical presentations Able to demonstrate application of theoretical learning to clinical practice within a wide range of situations. Experience in assessment and provision of specialist equipment Experience in delivering clinical treatment within specialist area Understanding of current issues in health care Standards of Professional Practice

Desirable

Experience in the use of outcome measures to evaluate clinical treatment Experience of training/supporting others (including students) within specialist clinical area Delivery of relevant research projects
