Job summary

We are looking for a dynamic individual to join us at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to drive, champion, and defend gold standard care for Older People. The post-holder will provide clinical, strategic, and professional leadership for Older People nursing, ensuring that the care delivered to all our patients is safe, effective, caring, well-led and responsive both now and in the future. The post-holder will be a source of expertise and operate with a high degree of autonomy whilst also working closely and collaboratively with senior medical colleagues.

There are four domains to the job:

o Advanced Clinical Practitioner level or expert level practice of care of Older People and especially those living with dementia and/or experiencing delirium and frailty

o Consultancy and leadership

o Development and provision of education and training

o Research, audit, service development & improvement

The post-holder will lead well-established, supportive, and collaborative multi-disciplinary teams dedicated to ensuring high quality care of Older People at King's.

The post-holder will be responsible for the professional leadership of the Older People nursing workforce, working with the Dementia & Delirium ('DAD'), Frailty, and King's Older People Advice & Liaison (KOPAL) teams, and demonstrating a supportive, person-centred and motivational approach with a 'can-do' attitude.

Main duties of the job

To provide clinical, strategic, and professional leadership for Older People nursing, ensuring that the care delivered to all patients is safe, effective, caring, well-led and responsive.

The post-holder will:

Contribute to the strategic direction and leadership for Older People care services Trust-wide, in conjunction with senior medical colleagues

Function as an expert practitioner, able to deliver high quality care to patients and families on their caseload - 50% of their time

Drive the training, education, and development of nurses and allied health professionals working in the department, through (but not limited to):

maintain and grow links with educational and academic providers growing the Trust-wide Older People Nursing Training Programme establishing recognition, locally and beyond, for the Older People Nursing Training Programme

Drive improvement in service quality and patient experience for Older People both in hospital and in care homes in Lambeth and Southwark

Take a direct role in service development, research, and evaluation

Line manage the Dementia and Delirium Team, the Frailty Practitioner Lead and the Kings Older People's Admission and Liaison (KOPAL) Lead demonstrating a supportive, person-centred and motivational approach

Represent the service at local national and international meetings to promote the Older Persons care agenda and academic teams

Education and Qualifications

Essential

RN1: Adult nurse, level 1 Management qualification or significant senior management experience in a healthcare setting Masters degree in a relevant field Evidence of post-registration education at degree level in relevant speciality Engaged in or committed to doctoral qualification Evidence of significant professional and managerial development, including a comprehensive and relevant CPD portfolio ENB 998/Teaching qualification or equivalent

In-depth experience of working in a specialist clinical capacity and as a senior clinical leader Experience of clinical practice development and applying continuous quality improvement methodology to develop services Highly developed interpersonal skills with meticulous attention to detail Experience in supporting and managing complex psychosocial situations Knowledge of current developments in nursing & political awareness of NHS Experience of managing a clinical team including human resources management Experience of independent research Educational experience and an ability to design and deliver educational programmes to meet the needs of health professionals Experience of developing policies and procedures Knowledge of standard setting, ability to work with academics to develop research and audit driven by clinical priorities
