AEV specialise in the manufacture of electrically insulating resins, varnishes, and compounds. Their products are used in the manufacture of a wide range of electrical machines and electronics, from domestic appliances to industrial products for the defence, energy, and transport industries.

As an expanding company AEV Ltd offering an opportunity to join a small and dynamic team situated in Merseyside, to support the laboratory in testing of raw materials, preparation of equipment and supporting on ensuring samples are made available in a timely manner.   This isn’t your typical white lab coat role. You will be working in a laboratory, but not as you know it. This won’t be a sterile environment and requires someone who’s not afraid to get stuck in.

  • Starting salary of £18,000 per annum
  • Workings hours are 40 hours per week (Mon to Fri with flexible working hours between 08:00 and 17:00)

What will I be doing as an apprentice?The Quality Technician supports the Technical & Operations teams in the manufacture, testing and release of high-quality products and determining conformance with internal and external standards.    Other duties you will be responsible for with training, include:  
  • Carry out quality control checks on manufactured products and incoming goods
  • Prevent the release of non-conforming products
  • Monitor & report conformance of batch manufacturing procedures and documentation
  • Analyse existing data and recommend adjustments to non-conforming products
  • Ensure production data is recorded and maintained to a high degree of accuracy
  • Provide technical QA and QC support for complaint investigations and commercial production
  • Carry out test programs to support relevant R&D or process engineering projects
  • Assist with process optimisation and cost reduction programmes
  • Proactively promote safe working conditions and practices to ensure that the company's Safety Management System is followed
  • Ensure that all procedures are carried out carefully and accurately
  • Compile and maintain technical documentation
  • Maintain and clean test equipment
  • Maintain good house-keeping and tidiness, conducting weekly lab floor/bench cleaning as required
  • Receive in laboratory supplies and test items as required
  • Keep up to date with relevant scientific and technical developments 
  • As part of the review team, identify and enact improvements to increase quality KPIs
  • Complete production audits to identify non-conformances, conceive and verify corrective actions

There’s no limit to what you can achieve if you work for AEV Ltd, with potential for the successful applicant to be offered a full-time position working with the business at the end of the apprenticeship.  Through ‘on-the-job’ training you’ll have the opportunity to learn new skills to provide competency and responsibility in carrying out testing and to help develop a career in laboratory testing. Not only that but the apprentice will have the opportunity to become a registered Science technician (RSci Tech).   Hard work and determination will be recognised

It’s about enthusiasm, not school results. In our experience the most successful apprentices are those who are driven to find out more about the sector, can be up front about what they do and don’t already know, are considerate, self-reflective, and impatient to learn the job role

Eligibility

You will need to be 18+ at the time of your apprenticeship start date due to insurance purposes. 
About You

You will have excellent communication and organisational skills.   You will have the ability to work independently and use initiative, as well as being an active team member when required to do so.   We’re looking for someone who is patient, highly motivated and driven to learn and excel in their role.   You will have a flexible approach to work and show the ability to switch priorities at short notice.   Even if this doesn’t sound quite like you, but you still think you could do a great job in the role, get in touch. So how does the apprenticeship work?At Tiro we’re obsessed with changing lives through science and technology apprenticeships so we can’t wait to have you on board.

Over 21 months, you’ll devote a minimum of 6 hours of your working week on ‘off the job’ training. This can include theory training (for example, virtual lessons & online learning), alongside practical training (for example shadowing, mentoring, & time spent writing assignments. Together this will count towards a Level 3 Laboratory Technician apprenticeship. You’ll be trained by an expert tutor from Tiro as well as an experienced mentor at AEV Ltd who together, will make sure you develop the knowledge, skills, and work habits you’ll need to succeed in your career.

Being an apprentice is hands-on, so you’ll get the chance to learn things you might otherwise not have experienced in a university or college environment.

The best part? You’ll be earning a salary while you gain your qualifications, meaning no huge student loans to pay back at the end of the programme
