Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic part time therapist to come and to join theteam as we expand our services providing support on the Inpatient unit, withinthe Community and as part of our face toface and virtual Living Well Service.
FTE £35,798 to £43,260 pro rata
Main duties of the job
You will be joining a team of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Complementary Therapists and Therapy Technicians in providing a holistic service including:
Assess, plan, implement and evaluate treatment programmes for patients with a view to maintaining and/or improving their present level of function. Involve patients in goals and treatment proposals. To gain valid informed consent. To work within the legal framework with patients who lack capacity for informed consent. Be responsible for own time management and the prioritisation of caseload. Develop comprehensive discharge plans and work with relevant professionals to arrange on-going support as needed.Support the delivery of assessments and therapeutic groups for the Living Well Service.

Clinical
Assess, plan, implement and evaluate treatment programmesfor patient with a view to maintaining and/or improving their present level of function.
Undertake more complexassessments, using profession specific clinical knowledge and skills.
Adjust treatments throughconsultation with other members of the multi professional staff, bothinternally and externally.
Maintain effectiverelationships with external professionals and relevant organisations liaisingabout patient care issues as appropriate.
Function effectively acrossa variety of environments ( clinics, care homes and patients' homes etc.)involving changing and demanding conditions.
Use recognised outcomemeasures and goal setting measures to motivate challenging clients.
Use a comprehensive range ofverbal and non-verbal communication tools to communicate effectively withpatients, and their families/carers, the diagnosis and treatment plan that maybe complex and sensitive, to help progress rehabilitation.
This will include patientswho may have difficulties with understanding or communication.
Undertake home assessments,liaising with the multi-professional team at St Barnabas House and in thecommunity and to make recommendations about arrangements required; facilitatingthe patients' discharge.
Involve patients in goals and treatment proposals. To gainvalid informed consent. To work within the legal framework with patients wholack capacity for informed consent.
Be responsible for own time management and theprioritisation of caseload.
Develop comprehensive discharge plans and work withrelevant professionals to arrange on-going support as needed.
Assist patients in adjusting to their physical losses astheir condition deteriorates.
Recognise and appropriately address risk factors topatients, carers and staff.
Ensure inputting and storingof provided information, and that it is kept and used in line with the DataProtection Act and St Barnabas House policies.
Manage stressful, upsettingor emotional situations in an empathetic manner supporting other members of theTeam, clients and their families in these situations.
Professional
Attend and activelyparticipate in clinical and multidisciplinary meetings.
Maintain clear and conciserecords which comply with the relevant hospice policy and procedures on recordkeeping.
Act within any legal andstatutory rules relating to physiotherapy practices in the field of palliativecare as set by the appropriate registering body.
Be a member of the'Chartered Society of Physiotherapist's and also the 'Association of CharteredPhysiotherapists in Oncology and Palliative Care' and to keep abreast ofcurrent palliative care issues.
Resource Management
Monitor stock levels ofequipment and materials for own clinical area and co ordinate ordering processas required.
Check Physiotherapyequipment is in working order within manufacturers' guidelines and reports needfor repair if required.
Together with the Head ofIn-Patient Services ensure clinical services are delivered in line withcommissioned activity and planned income.
Training & Development- Team
Provide clinical support tothe members of the clinical team, thereby promoting and maintaining effectiveteam working.
Provide clinical support andsupervision to a band 5 Physiotherapist and Therapy Technician.
Provide support to andassist with the service development in conjunction with the Therapy and supportTeam Lead.
Personal
Through the use of thehospice annual performance review system address personal professionaldevelopment and identify key objectives.
Be responsible for ensuringappropriate clinical supervision is in place, through the development of locallinks with other hospices and NHS units as appropriate.
Participate in any widereducation programme organised by the hospice for the benefit of other healthcare professionals
Managerial
Effectively manage own timeand workload.
Be aware of and adhere tothe relevant hospice policies and procedures, especially those relating tohealth and safety, fire, lone worker and manual handling.
Participate in monitoringstandards, produce quarterly activity, to implement action plans to improvequality of services.
Research
Carry out audit and serviceevaluations as part of the hospice quality assurance plans and in conjunctionwith the Wellbeing Team Lead.
Be aware of current researchand participate in inter-hospice projects should the opportunity arise.
