London Borough of Islington, United Kingdom Queen Mary University of London Full time

Overview

About the role

An exciting opportunity to join the Ciccarelli lab () to study the drivers of cancer evolution, from its early appearance to its response to therapy. We are a multidisciplinary team combining computational and wet-lab approaches and are affiliated with the Francis Crick Institute, a pioneering biomedical research institute in London.

We are seeking an independent and highly motivated wet-lab postdoctoral fellow to lead their own projects, contribute to collaborative efforts and guide PhD students, if required. Our lab is highly collaborative and interdisciplinary and the ability to work in a team is essential. There are several projects currently ongoing in the lab and the candidate will have the opportunity to find their own niche of professional training and development.

Examples of projects from the lab include investigating the context-dependent effects of tumour suppressors during cancer evolution (Biorxiv, 2024); determining key immune factors for response to cancer immunotherapy (Gastroenterology 2021); validating patient-specific cancer drivers (Nature Comms 2019); and exploiting cancer-specific synthetic lethal vulnerabilities (Oncotarget 2017).

About You

The successful candidate will be responsible to conduct wet lab work in the field of tumour immunology, molecular and cellular biology, tissue staining and imaging. They will have a strong background in cancer biology and past experience in wet lab. They will be able to work and thrive in a multidisciplinary team where they will share and integrate their expertise with that of others with different background. This post will be based at the Francis Crick Institute

About Queen Mary
At Queen Mary University of London, we believe that a diversity of ideas helps us achieve the previously unthinkable.

Throughout our history, we’ve fostered social justice and improved lives through academic excellence. And we continue to live and breathe this spirit today, not because it’s simply ‘the right thing to do’ but for what it helps us achieve and the intellectual brilliance it delivers.

Our reformer heritage informs our conviction that great ideas can and should come from anywhere. It’s an approach that has brought results across the globe, from the communities of east London to the favelas of Rio de Janeiro.

We continue to embrace diversity of thought and opinion in everything we do, in the belief that when views collide, disciplines interact, and perspectives intersect, truly original thought takes form.

Benefits
In return, we offer 30 days’ leave per annum, access to a pension scheme, a season ticket loan scheme and competitive salaries. We also offer enhanced family friendly leave, and an on-site nursery at the Mile End campus. You will also work with a friendly team, with personal development opportunities.

Queen Mary’s commitment to our diverse and inclusive community is embedded in our appointments processes. Reasonable adjustments will be made at each stage of the recruitment process for any candidate with a disability.
