We have an exciting opportunity to join our Mental Health Liaison Service, based in Royal Glamorgan Hospital but covering Ysbyty Cwm Rhondda also. The ideal candidate will be passionate about Mental Health Care, including the care of those living with Dementia.

The post holder will help support strategies to understand, prevent and manage clinically related challenging behaviour in general hospital settings, within the Rhondda/Taf Ely locality of Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board, thus ensuring that high quality, personalised care is delivered within a safe environment. You will need to have the confidence and understanding to deliver training to staff in all areas of the hospital in caring for those living with Mental Illness and Dementia and have have a true passion for delivering quality, safe and effective care, to enable a culture of care which is compassionate and understanding through exemplary role modelling.

Main duties of the job

To ensure support is provided for clients with a combination of mental health problems or severe distress who also require a medical intervention of any kind are supported.

The primary function of the Mental Health Liaison Associate Practitioner is to provide mental health support and intervention for adults admitted to wards across the district general and community hospital as well as in emergency departments.

The post holder with work under the direction of qualified practitioners and also work autonomously with patients who have been assessed to aid the patients' mental health condition and improve their recovery.

The responsibilities will include:-

Assisting the team in assessment and management of mental health needs. Supporting the team to deliver brief evidence-based interventions. Contribute to discharge planning process. With appropriate supervision contribute to the formal and informal training to medical team colleagues around mental health problems and their management. Provide education and support to staff in general and community hospital sites and provide modelling and meaningful activity to reduce distress.

Qualifications

Essential

QNVQ3, plus relevant experience, skills and knowledge to Diploma Level or equivalent experience, skills and knowledge. Good clinical knowledge of clinically related challenging behaviour. Up to date with current guidance on managing challenging behaviour. Knowledge of a range of procedures and practices in delivering patient care. Desirable

Diploma in relevant subject or qualification to equivalent level. Restrictive Physical Intervention Level 4 Training.

Experience

Essential

Experience of working with clients with mental health difficulties Previous in-patient nursing experience.

Desirable

Physical Health monitoring experience Phlebotomy trained

Communication

Essential

Good written and verbal communication skills IT Literate - has experience of health board IT systems Experience of collaborative and autonomous working Ability to remain calm in challenging circumstances

Skills

Essential

Able to work in highly challenging environment. Ability to remain calm in challenging circumstances. Positive attitude to MDT working and working with carers.

Desirable

The ability to speak or learn Welsh to a satisfactory level.
