Job summary

We are recruiting a Principal Clinical Psychologist in Neuropsychology, to work within Rehabilitation. Our Principal Clinical Psychologists in Neuropsychology will be autonomous practitioners responsible for delivering excellent patient experience. As part of the Neuropsychology team, you will focus on delivering a high quality, robust and responsive neuropsychological rehabilitation service to adult neurological patients on the inpatient Rehabilitation Unit, working alongside consultants and all members of the multidisciplinary team. You will join a growing team of Neuropsychologists who work into diagnostic, surgical and rehabilitation services.

Main duties of the job

Principal Clinical Psychologists working in Neuropsychology must be capable of taking substantial professional responsibility and acting autonomously in respect of clinical decisions in their area of practice. They will provide advanced psychological assessments, clinical diagnosis, and management of patients in the neurosciences areas in both inpatient and outpatient settings, ensuring that the service is informed by best evidence and expert knowledge.

Principal Clinical Psychologists working in Neuropsychology may specialize in outpatient diagnostic or inpatient services, and part-time as well as full-time roles are available.

Job responsibilities

Use a range of psychological assessment and intervention strategies with the ability to integrate complex data from a variety of sources. Deliver the neuro-psychology service to provide high quality care to all patients. Act as a source of expertise on the management of neurological patients, providing support and advice to more junior members of staff working within the clinical neuropsychology service and other health professionals both within the service and the wider MDT. Participate in education and training of junior members of staff working within the neuropsychology service and other healthcare professionals in the management of psychological disorders. Keep informed of developments within professional clinical practice relevant to this area of neuropsychology. Work independently and within the MDT, managing discharge, transition home and onward referrals of patients, including involvement in complex patients. Provide support and advice to doctors, nursing staff, allied health professionals, patients, and their families/careers. Participate in clinical research and audit priorities to contribute to the neuropsychology clinical development strategy. Support the neuropsychology leadership team in the development and delivery of innovative service improvement projects focused on improving quality of care and patient outcomes. Ensure appropriate actions are taken to mitigate or respond to identified risks. Work within identified scope of practice and the Health and Care Professions Council Standards of Practice. Adhere at all times to personal and professional standards, which reflect credit on the profession and encourage others to do likewise. Be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of own work, ensuring a high standard of clinical care for patients under own management and supporting others to do likewise. Qualifications

Essential

Training in Clinical psychology to doctoral standard (or its equivalent for those trained before 1996), as accredited by the BPS. Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council. Post qualification training in Neuropsychology (, Diploma in Clinical Neuropsychology or BPS Qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology (QiCN) or equivalent) (Desirable). Evidence of training or experience in supervisory skills. Evidence of continuous and current professional and academic development relevant to clinical field. Membership of a special interest group desirable. Fluency in written and spoken English is essential.

Experience

Essential

Experience of specialist neuropsychological assessment and treatment of patients in inpatient or outpatient settings. Experience of working with a variety of client groups, and with a variety of presenting problems including complex, highly emotive, and distressing problems such as verbal abuse and the threat of physical violence. Demonstrable track record of post-qualification experience working within neuropsychology. Experience of multidisciplinary/multi agency working. Demonstrate evidence of learning from experience and having undertaken formal and informal CPD, both generic and specific to clinical field/specialty. Evaluation of clinical practice including participation in research/audit/service evaluation and quality. Experience of empowering patients to make informed choices about the management of their condition and engaging them in the planning and delivery of treatment, taking into account cultural, linguistic, medical, emotional, psychological and physical factors. Experience in the assessment of capacity, ability to work within the legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent and to support other caregivers to do likewise.

Desirable

Experience of clinical supervision / line management of junior members of staff is desirable. Experience of participating in audits, quality standard setting and risk management processes for clinical effectiveness is desirable. Experience of participating in using a clinical governance framework to monitor and improve quality of patient care is desirable.
