Description

The Data Scientist will help realise the value held within IMS’s vast data stores by utilizing analytical tools to develop new products, design new algorithms & find new insights in the data. This role will be within the Data Science team and as such will be working with the team to help clients understand their data and ultimately deploy new data products to make better use of it. This role will be a mixture of R&D and production development and will be responsible for developing an idea through to a usable data product as well as evolving existing products. Our ultimate ambition is to use data and technology to make roads safer and save lives, this role will help lead this mission

This position is a vital component of the business, and is responsible for:

Working as part of a team to develop new algorithms and produce production-ready code. Analyse large, raw, and potentially noisy datasets to derive actionable intelligence. Interpret relevant insights from diverse datasets including time-series and geospatial data. Validate results using best practices in math and statistics. Develop effective tools using software best practices. Visualise and present insights and models clearly and effectively. Sharing best practices and techniques with others, contributing to an attitude of robust
analytical practices across the team Where customers use the analytical products, support them in understanding and adapting them to their needs. Our analytical products should continually evolve to include new factors (such as distracted driving). They should also be evolved technically to ensure they are using appropriate models ( learn from new technologies not just iterate current ones).

Requirements

We know you will have a wide skill set, but to thrive in this role we think you will need:

Essential:

Statistical analysis experience across a range of techniques Good software development skills, ideally in Python, Linux, Git Able to speak to humans not just machines. Experience building data-driven software solutions with Python. Able to think out of the box and come up with new ideas to improve and evolve our products. Be comfortable respectfully challenging (and being challenged) on the ideas and assumptions
that go into our work. Degree in mathematics, statistics, engineering, computer science, finance, or similar Demonstrated ability to learn, adapt, and solve tough problems. Strong analytical skills, strong model and software development skills and an open mind Experience and passion for applying statistical and data mining techniques to overcome real
world challenges - deriving intelligence from data. Experience writing complete, clear, and concise designs, data models, and algorithms. Proficient at disseminating complex technical concepts in both written and oral forms.

Desired

Experience of sensor fusion Experience with multiple data management tools (HDFS, PostGIS, MapReduce, Spark) Experience with visualization tools (Matplotlib, , Tableau) Driven, passionate and creative, and thrives in a fast-paced environment. Experience in the insurance market (regulatory, filing, modelling, pricing) desired.
