The Physical Health Psychology Service is a team of psychologists, therapists and counsellors who aim to assist people in adapting to and developing creative solutions for living with physical health problems. The Black Country Healthcare Physical Health Psychology Service currently operates across 3 geographical areas (Dudley, Wolverhampton and Sandwell and West Birmingham) with a number of contracts in each area. This post will be based within one of our service areas. You will be working closely with the multi-disciplinary team and under the supervision of a Band 8a Clinical Psychologist. There will also likely be opportunities to work with other assistant psychologists on service wide projects. A robust leadership and supervision structure is in place, alongside operational management.

The valuable role of psychologists working with this client group is recognised by our commissioners, NICE guidelines and the multi-disciplinary teams. We are seeking a highly motivated and dynamic individual with a keenness and ability to integrate and develop their current skills and apply them in this context. The most important qualities are good communication skills, working co-operatively and thinking creatively.

Main duties of the job

To administer standardised psychological assessment of clients and collect assessment data from a variety of sources.

Responsible for recognising the potential for or signs of client harm, abuse or neglect, including poor clinical practice, reporting all such concerns and taking all reasonable steps to protect the client. Responsible for identifying and reporting concerns regarding the safeguarding of children who may be at risk.

Under the supervision of an Applied Psychologist, supports the development of psychological formulation and intervention plans for individual clients and/or their carers. Negotiates the implementation of such plans with clients and/or their carers.

Under the supervision of an Applied Psychologist, implements psychological interventions for individual clients, carers, families and groups.

Under the supervision of an Applied Psychologist, to develop resources and materials to support the delivery of the service.

To support Applied Psychologists in the delivery of specialist psychological assessments and interventions to clients with complex mental health conditions and/or learning disabilities which may include challenging behaviours?

To be compassionate in meeting the needs of clients, their carers and families.

To support the Applied Psychologist in the provision of psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other direct care staff in MDT.

To promote at all times a positive image of people with mental ill health or learning disabilities.

To promote at all times a positive image of the service and the wider Trust.

In line with the banding of the post and its service context, and under the supervision of an Applied Psychologist to be involved in:

Multi-disciplinary training and development Service audit and development Service evaluation and research Bring an understanding of psychological change processes to own role within MDT
