Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to play a central part in expanding our psychologically informed weight management service to incorporate more consultation and group offers to our client group. In addition to supporting our population with lifestyle approaches to weight loss you would also be supporting others in the development of their psychological skills.

As a psychologically led service, we focus on lifestyle behaviour change, in addition to a new digital and group offers to patients we want to provide trauma informed 1:1s for patients where appropriate. Playing a consultative role to other members of our multi-disciplinary team, you will need to take a positive approach to your work to engage with others.

A key part of the role is inputting one day into University Hospitals Derby where you will be involved with treating complex referrals and patients considering bariatric surgery.

You will be joining a supportive team. Hybrid and flexible working available.

We invite applications from newly qualified Psychologists to join on Band 7 progression post with a clear route through to Band 8A.

Main duties of the job

Main aspects of the role will be

1-1 assessment, formulation, and intervention with individuals with obesity.

Co-production of group-based interventions for our Tier 3 service; based on the current and emerging evidence base around psychological approaches

You'll enjoy developing your supervision skills when supporting our weight management advisors with their core weight loss messaging.

Contributing to the development of consultative/ systemic approaches to support patients in their weight loss journeys, perhaps working with families and carers.

Your enthusiastic and creative approach to your work along with a commitment to making Tier 3 services more accessible will be more relevant perhaps that already having experience with obesity.

You'll need to be familiar with health behaviour change models and be accustomed to or open to working with different care providers including public health services, acute hospital colleagues and those working in associated eating disorder and mental health services.

Maintaining high levels of professional behaviour in all aspects of your role and duties.

This vacancy is open to newly qualified and Band 7 psychologists looking to develop into an 8a post over time as well as to already established 8a psychologists.

You will join an ever-expanding department which includes Health Psychology; Psychologists and allied professionals working into Public Health; cancer services and a Diabetes Education Team.

You will have the chance to work closely with these colleagues in a friendly environment.

Our purpose is to provide community health services to a patient population of over one million people in Derbyshire and Derby, as part of Joined Up Care Derbyshire.

We employ around 4,200 substantive staff, caring for patients in 11 community hospitals and more than 30 health centres, as well as in clinics, GP practices, schools, care homes and, increasingly, in people's own homes and via virtual consultations.

Education, Qualification & Training

Essential

Good honours degree in Psychology. Eligibility for Graduate membership of BPS Post-graduate doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996 or those in lateral transfer as accredited by the Those coming through other practitioner psychology post graduate routes must have equivalent accreditation with a professional body. You must be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Practitioner Psychologist and entitled to use the title 'Clinical Psychologist' and be chartered with the BPS or A full member of the Association of Clinical Psychologists UK. Registration with an equivalent professional body required for those coming through alternative practitioner psychology routes.

Experience and Knowledge Required

Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across a broad range of health psychology settings Experience and/or substantial relevant pre-qualification experience Extensive experience of using both conventional ( CBT) and innovative therapies Experience of providing consultation, supervision and training to psychology and other health care staff.

Ability to provide consultation to other non-psychology colleagues, and teaching and training skills Good written communication skills with the ability to tailor these to varying contexts Excellent IT skills Ability to fulfil travel requirements for the post, travel between bases during the working day
