About the Opportunity 

Nuclear Power Programmes are delivering client critical works to some of our major UK and European Projects. Our embedded teams are delivering support to Hinkley Point C (New build power station in the South West), Sizewell C (located in the South East), helping develop technologies in SMR (Small modular Reactor) capability and working towards building Poland's first Nuclear Power station.

Working in both client facing and internal roles we are delivering major programme and project management capabilities throughout the project lifecycle. We are driving to deliver safe, high quality and to time solutions by thinking innovatively and working collaboratively.We are recruiting for a Field Engineer/Welding Inspector, and you will be responsible to perform Surveillance to give confidence that the Activities are performed in accordance with the Contractor’s Work Information. You will form part of a team with the primary role to deliver the Team Lead duties described in the contract and ensure that HPC Quality needs, targets and expectations are met.

As the Field Engineer will be a staunch advocate of our Nuclear Safety Culture and help to embed this approach in all processes and activities undertaken on the Project. The scope will cover all Works associated with the construction of the designated section of the Project and the post holder will perform surveillance on the activities of the Works Contractors. This will include continuous, notified and planned surveillance. Key responsibilities: 

Check the Works are constructed in accordance with the contract and notify the Construction Superintendent of non-conformance request requirements. Submit details of any non-conformance request requirements to assist in the issuing of non-conformance reports. Proactively communicate with other site teams, maintain good communication links and ensure surveillance is timely reported. Contribute surveillance information to support KPI indicators. Endeavour to identify potential Quality issues before they arrive to enable mitigating actions.  Support team instructions to take temporary measures to mitigate and keep works safe and within Quality standards. Follow up by taking appropriate and proportionate action (e.g. issue communications, call meetings) to prevent the halt of works Ensure design decisions are not taken “in the field” by EDF Energy or contractors, but are considered and approved via a formal process. Enhance the team with a good perspective of current and future site activities. 

Here's What You'll Need:

Mechanical Engineering, Materials, Welding qualifications or equivalent vocational training and experience  Broad knowledge and wide understanding of the Engineering Construction industry, materials, trades methods and legal requirements Excellent organisation, delegation, and good communication skills (knowledge of French can be an advantage). Proven experience of writing diaries which are accurate, concise and with relevance to the particular form of contract. Proven track record of working within a large construction team. Good attention to detail when checking work and materials. And the ability to maintain quality standards in a high-pressure environment. Able to establish appropriate working relationships with the contractors.  Working knowledge of relevant British & European standards, construction and design codes/guidelines such as RCC-M, BS EN and ASME.
