Job summary

This position is open to Registered Nurses and Registered Midwives. Registered Midwives must maintain midwifery practice hours to maintain registration. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Deputy Clinical Nurse to join Hewitt Fertility Centre Knutsford.

This post will be based at Knutsford but will also cover the Liverpool sites as required.

This vacancy is open to Registered Nurses and Registered Midwives with the essential skills.

Main duties of the job

Provide clinical and managerial leadership for nursing and support staff to ensure effective running of the unit in the absence of the Clinical Nurse Manager. Promote positive patient experience to all patients ensuring a positive patient journey.

Assist with the clinical management of the Hewitt Fertility Centre, maintaining high standards of nursing practice and promoting the philosophy of patient and family centred care. Ensuring effective communication is maintained. Function at experienced fertility nurse level, able to make effective decisions autonomously / independently without supervision and in partnership with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team. Act as a team leader / co-ordinator and role model for the nursing team, ensuring the delivery of a high standard of evidence-based care to patients and providing support for all staff on the unit. Participate in projects within the unit and represent the department at appropriate Trust meetings. Facilitate the education of registered and non registered staff and work in association with, and the support of, the unit manager in defining standards of care and practice aimed at developing and/or improving the quality of patient care.

Job responsibilities

To identify and monitor care priorities and organise workload for Fertility patients in the Division. Competent in USS, Embryo Transfers and preferably nurse prescribing or commence training within 6 months of commencing employment. Motivate colleagues and self to deliver high standards of care in line with the unit / /department philosophy and Trust strategic objectives. Advise junior staff and students on care strategies and provide rationale and teaching of evidence-based care to other team members. Deliver skilled, high quality, expert and evidence-based nursing care to all patients and their families attending the department. To undertake nursing interventions consistent with evidence-based practice, transferring and applying knowledge and skills to meet the patient and partners needs. To deliver care in accordance with identified standards and contribute toward department the monitoring and development of standards. To be responsible for assessing and recognising emergencies in this clinical speciality, able to interpret information and take appropriate action and lead others to do so. Manage challenging and difficult situations with a professional and emotionally appropriate response, ensuring the needs of the patient remain paramount. To be competent in the use of all equipment and technology in the area and participate in ensuring that it is always serviced and kept in good order. Safely demonstrate. the ability to set up, maintain and train staff in the use of all medical devices used on the area in accordance with NMC guidelines, Division and Trust policy. To work in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team and actively involved in referring to other agencies and specialities Therapy services, Safeguarding Team, etc. Participate and assist in setting standards of patient care based on sound research findings. To be competent and abide by statutory rules and regulations concerning the safe custody and administration of drugs to all patients. Carry out instructions / treatments as prescribed by medical staff, including the checking, and administering of drugs with safety and accuracy. Follow Trust and ward/department drug policies and protocols and encourage other members of staff to do the same. Work as part of the multidisciplinary team in supporting patients and their partners during the delivery of bad or distressing news. Be able to give and manage the breaking of bad / distressing news and ensure the patients and family are treated with sensitivity and responsive of their needs. Be aware of the psychological, social, and emotional needs of patients and their partners in relation to hospital admissions / attendances and effectively minimise the stress caused by hospitalisation. Undertakes relevant clinical skills and functions within the role requirements, following appropriate training and assessment and assist in the training of junior staff (eg venepuncture, cannulation, and administration of medication under Patient Group Directives, aseptic dressings and other medical procedures. To utilise highly developed physical skills eg preparing and giving intravenous medication, assembling equipment, maintaining infusions, wound care, ECG recording. Specific only to Non-Medical Prescribers who hold a Nurse Independent Prescribing (V300) qualification that is recordable with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) and are required to undertake NMP as part of their role. As a Non-Medical Prescriber (NMP) you will hold a Nurse Independent Prescribing (V300) qualification that is recordable with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) The Parameters of non-medical prescribing duties should be agreed between prescriber, their line manager and medical lead for the area/service. o Nurse independent prescribers will be responsible for prescribing a range of drugs in accordance with Trust protocols and British National Formulary. Work in accordance with the Trust Non-Medical Prescribing Policy participate in the Trust wide and local NMP support groups. Working as an independent non-medical prescriber within gynaecology services the post holder will take responsibility for the clinical assessment of patients, establishing the clinical management required, in addition will take responsibility for prescribing within their level of expertise and competence, where necessary and the appropriateness of any prescription used. Qualifications

Essential

Registered Nurse - NMC Registered Midwife - MNC Professional knowledge acquired through degree supplemented by specialist clinical training / short courses to masters level equivalent or relevant experience. Evidence of on-going dynamic continuing professional development within the speciality linked to performance of all four core clinical competencies. BFS Trans-Vaginal Ultrasound accreditation or other recognised scanning course. BFS Embryo transfer accreditation or proven experience. Recognised teaching/ mentorship qualification ENB998 C&G 703 or equivalent

Nurse prescribing qualification.

Specialist expertise within Reproductive Medicine and experience of developing specialised programmes of care and providing specialised advice regarding care. Experience of working as core member of multidisciplinary team Delivering nurse led clinics within a Reproductive Medicine or General Infertility department Complaint handling Counselling skills. Experience in data collection, analysis and completion of reports
