STAFF CAR PARKING

Staff Car Parking on the West Suffolk Hospital Site is eligible for individuals working outside of the core hours, 07:00 - 18:30.

For individuals working within the core hours, the Trust offers parking off site at the Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club, which is serviced by a regular shuttle bus to and from the Hospital. Details of the bus timetable can be found in the on-line starter pack on the West Suffolk Hospital website.

This parking restriction does not apply if an individual is required to work on a weekend or if they are required to complete "on call" duties within their role.

Main duties of the job

Essential elements of the role include assessing, planning and the implementation of holistic packages of care to patients and their carer's who have a diagnosis of chronic pain. Working as an autonomous clinician you will provide care including the timely optimisation of evidence based treatment. The main aim of the role is to support people with chronic pain to manage their condition, improve function and fitness for purpose whilst preventing unnecessary admissions to hospital through the optimisation of evidence based treatment.

The successful candidate will need to be an HCPC registered physiotherapist who has capability to appropriately triage patients and conduct comprehensive specialist biopsychosocial assessments or ability to develop these skills. You should have experience in delivering individual and group-based intervention. You must understand or be developing your current pain science understanding and your approach needs to be based upon delivering psychologically informed physiotherapy intervention for people living with persistent pain. You need to demonstrate tangible results and commitment to providing excellent personalised care. Experience in audit and outcome measures would be desirable.

Clinical

To triage therapy referrals to ensure clients receive timely intervention from the most appropriate person. To be professionally and legally accountable for own complex caseload. To organise, plan and evaluate interventions to meet clients and services priorities and to adjust these in line with available and changing resources. To undertake highly specialist therapy assessments for clients within clinical area, including those with complex physical, sensory, psychological, perceptual and/or cognitive needs to identify areas of need. To use a variety of assessment methods both standardised and non-standardised, and advanced clinical reasoning skills and knowledge for high quality clinical outcome. To ensure every patient is properly assessed for the presence of red flags and if indicated appropriate onward referral is undertaken. To assess risks, make recommendations and document to ensure risks are reduced as far as possible within the clients daily activities and associated environments. Education and qualifications

Essential

Diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy. Registration with the Health Professions Council. MSc knowledge in relevant field or equivalent experience Evidence of CPD in Pain Sciences Evidence of continuous and current clinical, professional, leadership and academic development relevant to clinical fields. Membership of appropriate professional body

Desirable

Membership of professional special interest group Management and leadership skills training CBT qualification Clinical Educators course or equivalent.

Experience and knowledge

Essential

Broad base of clinical MSK experience and knowledge prior to specialising and experience of working in the management of chronic pain conditions. Specialist knowledge in the management of chronic pain, developed through a combination of training/learning and experience. Experience of the assessment and treatment of clients requiring cognitive-behaviourally orientated physiotherapy. Experience of managing a caseload of clients with complex needs. Experience of multi-disciplinary working and MDT meetings Supervision of senior and junior staff and students Experience of clinical audit and service evaluation Experience of project management /service development Experience of organising and implementing training programmes for staff Experience of facilitating with a Pain Management Programme Basic knowledge on prescribed pain medication to manage risk, seek specialist advice, communicate with team signpost to sources of information and support Knowledge - options available and mechanisms of referral for social prescribing, emotional support, exercise support and appropriate voluntary sector links

Desirable

Experience of assessing and treating patients who do not speak English or have other barriers to communication Experience of managing change. Research / audit methods. Experience of Motivational Interviewing Approach
