Job summary

To assess young people with psychosis or possible psychosis. To provide specialist advice to young people, carers and professionals. To liaise and work in collaboration with other agencies in planning and assessing programmes of care.

Main duties of the job

To plan and implement specialist programmes of care for young people following the first appearance of psychosis or for a limited period where psychosis is suspected, including carrying a specialist caseload of clients and acting as care co-ordinator. To liaise and work in collaboration with other agencies in planning and assessing programmes of care.

Job responsibilities

This role is focussed on providing appropriate, effective interventions and treatments to people with Psychosis and their Carers (including friends and relatives) and their supporters in the community, enabling and assisting them to meet daily health, social care and wellbeing needs, in line with personal recovery goals, and facilitating engagement with mainstream services.

1. Professional qualification and registration in mental health nursing or occupational therapy

Experience

Essential

1. Broad based post qualification mental health experience, including working with first episode psychosis. 2. Experience of and commitment to multidisciplinary working. 3. Experience of providing clinical supervision to junior staff / consultation for other professionals. 4. Experience of Care Coordination or equivalent role

Desirable

1. Developing, leading and advising on group / psychoeducational programmes. 2. Experience of teaching / training 3. Appropriate CPD post-qualification in adolescent mental health / psychosocial interventions

Knowledge

Essential

1. Good knowledge of adolescent developmental issues. 2. Good knowledge of severe mental illness. 3. Good knowledge and skills in psychiatric assessment / formulation with client group. 4. Good knowledge of the principles of care underlying early intervention. 5. Specialist skills and knowledge related to own professional background 6. Familiarity with child protection procedure

Desirable

1. Knowledge and skills in the use of relevant rating scales, eg KGV, CAARMS, DAI, LUNSERS 2. Knowledge and skills in specific therapeutic approaches relevant to the client group care management, family work, CBT with psychosis, relapse prevention planning. 3. Knowledge and skills around substance abuse
