Job summary

The Pre-operative Assessment Team is looking for a proactive and enthusiasticregistered nurse who is interested in delivering evidence-based, patient-canteredcare in peri-operative practice.

The successful candidate will be expected to actively contribute with their knowledgeand experience to the development of new pathways for patients awaitingtheir surgical intervention.

There is need for a close liaison with the staff on the ward, admissions, outpatients,theatres, pharmacy, members of the multidisciplinary team, primary care team andthe palliative care services to expedite and facilitate patient-centred care

Main duties of the job

To work in conjunction with the Lead practitioner to develop and implement aquality. peri-operative assessment service to meet the needs of all clients requiring anaesthesia and surgery. The post holder will work within the department to provide the highest standardsof patient care using research evidence-based practise, national and local protocols. To perform the competencies of a trained pre assessment nurse and in addition any competencies associated to the allocated speciality. To undertake the teaching and assessment of any junior team members or new to department The post holder will assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care for patients undergoing theatre procedures within an individual theatre environment. The post holder will be required to coordinate the department and follow the flow of the patient The post holder will be required to triage by using appropriate tools. Deputise for the department sister when absent to maintain the efficient running of the Preop department. To act autonomously within given competencies and recognise when to make appropriate referrals. There is need for a close liaison with the staff on the ward, admissions, outpatients, theatres, pharmacy, members of the multidisciplinary team, primary care team and the palliative care services to expedite and facilitate patient-centred care for urology patients. Being approachable and to lead by example by maintaining open and inclusive atmosphere.
