YOUR MAIN DUTIES
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the innovative and dynamic Neonatal Intensive Care Service at University Hospitals Southampton (UHS) as a Consultant Neonatologist. Two substantive posts are available as a result of expansion of neonatal services and an increase in consultant cover in line with BAPM recommendations.
The successful applicants will complete a team of 11 WTE neonatologists who provide a comprehensive neonatal service to medical and surgical neonates at Princess Anne Hospital in a 38 bed NICU (24 IC/ HDU, 14 SC) with 800 admissions per year, increasing to 42 cots after expansion. UHS is the lead centre within Wessex Neonatal ODN, providing tertiary neonatal services including cardiology, cardiac surgery, surgery, endocrinology, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery for complex infants within Southampton Children's Hospital. In addition, UHS hosts the Southampton hub of the Southampton-Oxford Neonatal Transport Service which undertakes 600 transfers per year.

WHAT YOULL DO:
The successful applicant will be expected to deliver clinical excellence within the speciality of Neonatal Medicine and must the have skills to deliver neonatal intensive care within a tertiary NICU with neonatal surgical and cardiac subspecialty patients. They will undertake Consultant neonatal duties including providing and supervising medical care to neonates within the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), postnatal wards and neonatal clinics. Supporting the care of neonates within other areas of the Trust, working collaboratively with colleagues within subspecialties, Obstetrics, Midwifery and the Fetal Medicine service. They will also undertake duties in UHS hub of the Consultant led Network Transport service and participate in an on-call rota in conjunction with the existing team to provide Consultant cover to the Neonatal Service and the Neonatal transport service.
WHAT WERE LOOKING FOR
The successful candidate would be expected to deliver clinical excellence, be motivated and adaptable to changes within the NHS, and have a drive to improve patient care and services. A willingness to develop and work within a constantly changing environment is necessary together with an ability to remain calm under pressure. The successful candidate ideally will bring additional skills and special interests that complement the existing neonatal team. This might include, but is by no means limited to, an interest in perinatal care including antenatal counselling and liaison with fetal medicine, perinatal and neonatal palliative care, family integrated care, and transition to tertiary paediatric services. Skills and experience in point of care ultrasound, including echocardiography, would also be beneficial, but again not essential
Candidates should have a CCT in Neonates or equivalent experience as defined by the Neonatal CSAC (either 36 months of level 3 neonatology or 24 months level 3 neonatal experience with 12 months allied specialities at ST6-8) or experience as a consultant in a level 3 neonatal unit, and be on the GMCs Specialist Register. Trainees who are within six months of obtaining their neonatal CCT on the date of the AAC may also apply. Applicants will be expected to demonstrate their competence to communicate in spoken and written English.

The successful candidate will be employed under the terms and conditions of service for Consultants (England) 2003.

MBBS or equivalent medical qualification GMC registration with a licence to practise MRCPCH/MRCP (or equivalent) Neonatal Life Support (NLS) Provider
Desirable
MSc, DM, PhD or equivalent higher degree Neonatal Life Support Course Instructor or Director Neonatal CCT or eligible within 6 months or previous experience as a substantive consultant in a level 3 neonatal unit or Paediatric CCT with equivalent neonatal training as per Neonatal CSAC May 2018 (36 months level 3 neonates at ST6-8 or minimum 24 months level 3 neonatal training at ST6-8 level plus 12 months allied specialities at ST 6-8)
