Job description

Job responsibilities

The post holder will ensure the provision of professional and efficient service to the patients of Lakeside Healthcare Stamford attending the Dispensary.

The post holder will process all orders as they arrive, liaise with patients attending the surgery dispensary and transfer the medication to patients at the window as per the internal Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).

The post-holder will, at all times, demonstrate a positive and friendly image to patients visiting the dispensary and all other visitors. They will deal with queries in a professional, courteous and efficient way.

Duties & Areas of Responsibility

Key tasks:

Issue all repeat medication requests for the Dispensary and the local Pharmacies on behalf of the patient. Action the online repeat prescription requests and using the dispensary task boxes appropriately. Sort the appliances for collection/delivery when they have arrived and sorting the relevant paperwork. Transfer the medication to the patients, at the window/counter as per the SOP. Collect all due prescription charges and ensure that the patient declaration on the reverse of the FP10 is duly filled in and signed by the patient. Ensure that all monies received or handled on behalf of the practice are appropriately stored, and a record kept of all financial transactions. Deal with prescription queries from patients and Pharmacies at the window/counter. Putt away the dispensed parcels on the shelves and filing the prescription for collection. Put the dispensed parcels for delivery away in the correct cupboards and ensuring that they are all labelled correctly, and that the corresponding label is on the delivery sheet. Ensure the prescription is checked and filed appropriately and accurately. Promptly forward all invoices and dispensary related correspondence to the finance manager or dispensary manager according to practice policy. Ensure that the shelves and all work surfaces are regularly cleaned to maintain a high level of hygiene within the dispensary and that all dispensary equipment is kept clean and is in good working order. Accept the pharmaceutical deliveries for the dispensary and ensuring that all the relevant paperwork is completed and handed to the driver. To ensure that refrigerated items are stored at the appropriate temperature and to maintain a temperature control record/logbook. Undertake any necessary work as may be required and appropriate to maintain a high standard and efficient dispensing service. Undertake all mandatory training as required for your role, including Bluestream Academy. Ensure that all processes are followed as per the Standard Operating Procedures

Additional Responsibilities:

Prescriptions and prescription monies

Check prescriptions for signature/endorsements and sort into paid/unpaid by doctor. Cashing up prescription monies, balancing and recording. Submitting prescription monies to the finance for banking, ensuring sufficient change is available. Ad hoc issue all repeat medication requests for the Dispensary and the local Pharmacies on behalf of the patient. Ad hoc Actioning the online repeat prescription requests and using the dispensary task boxes appropriately.

Destruction of drugs

Daily: dealing with returned medication from patients for the DOOP. Weekly: dealing with uncollected medication from the shelves, returning to stock and cancelling the prescription.

Delivery of drugs

On an ad hoc basis may be asked to stand in for the driver to deliver drugs/medication to residential homes within local areas. On an ad hoc basis may provide an effective and efficient prescription delivery service with the guidance of the Dispensary team, where required. On an ad hoc basis may check each prescription package against defined list of patients who are expecting a delivery, identifying any missing items to dispensary colleagues. Person Specification

Awareness of general practice practices. Clinical/medical terminology. Systm1 knowledge and use.

Qualifications

Essential

GCSE English and Maths Grade 4 or above or Equivalent. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages.

Full Drivers License or willing to travel.
