A highly reputable Special Educational Needs (SEN) school group is seeking a dedicated and passionate Maths Teacher to join their alternative provision in Northampton. The successful candidate will have the chance to work within a well-established team, delivering engaging and differentiated Maths lessons to students with additional learning needs, including SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) difficulties. This role offers both personal and professional growth within a supportive and inclusive setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver creative and accessible Maths lessons that meet the needs of individual learners.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to engage students who may find mainstream education challenging.
  • Monitor, assess, and report on student progress, ensuring a personalized learning approach.
  • Work collaboratively with support staff, SEN specialists, and parents/carers to create a positive and encouraging learning environment.
  • Contribute to the development of individualized learning plans (IEPs) for students with specific needs.
  • Manage classroom behaviour effectively, using de-escalation strategies and promoting positive behaviour.
  • Foster strong relationships with students, helping to build their confidence, motivation, and self-esteem.

Essential Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Experience teaching Maths across Key Stages 3 and 4 (GCSE level).
  • A proven track record of working with children with SEN, particularly those with SEMH needs.
  • Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to engage and inspire students who may present challenging behaviour.
  • A passion for making Maths accessible and enjoyable for all learners.
  • Patience, resilience, and an empathetic approach to working with vulnerable young people.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in an alternative provision or PRU (Pupil Referral Unit).
  • A specialism or additional qualifications in SEN or Behavioural Support.
  • Knowledge of restorative practice and trauma-informed teaching approaches.
